Yeah, but ducks are fat, dumb, slow and clumsy: ie, a meal that is a both a relatively easy kill and better yet VERY filling. While it's not unheard of for hawks and other birds of prey to go after small, quick and agile birds like this one, it is extremely unlikely. No, I'd be more worried about a cat getting at it than anything else; that would be a much more likely scenario. I think that small chance is still worth it though, for her to get to fly free while still having a loving home where all her needs are met and she's loved
@piranhaplantX15 күн бұрын
@@babyblue_22Yeah, especially if your parrot is already socialized with a cat in your home. They may end up moving towards that danger unaware. I hate this owner ngl. This bird is called a rainbow lorikeet, if you google an image of one and look at the wings, you'll notice the flight feathers extend down past the body. This bird has been clipped on both sides, so it can't fly at all. Meaning it did not put itself in that bush. The owner has placed it there, allowed it to get completed soaked, and then has filmed himself carrying it back into the van for likes. Birds can't regulate their body temperature as well as we can, this lori was probably freezing. And also, he clearly cheaped out on it's setup. The cage looks like it's made out of galvanized steel, witch means it's coated in zinc. Zinc is toxic to birds, if ingested the bird will die within a couple of days. Apologies for killing the mood. Feel free to ignore my comment, I just wanted to rant.

He can sit patiently on my shoulder until we're at the park and I've checked for possible dangers. I get what you're saying, but your comment could lead people to think they're just typical pets who require the same level of care as a dog or cat. That is not the case. As i'm sure you know, owning a parrot is a commitment that most people could or should not handle. They are highly intelligent (about the level of a toddler or small child) and emotional, and they need proper time to bond with you. Training them can take a ton of time and effort depending on what you want from them. Plus they can live up to 80-90 years depending on the species. If you're going on vacation, finding a someone to care of your dogs or cats is quite easy. Finding a bird-sitter can be a whole different story. You'll basically be caring for a child for decades upon decades, potentially your whole life. Dogs and cats are far more casual pets Edit: Just realised parrots could be an amazing addition to the family for mothers who no longer have children living at home but miss the parenting. Wish you had that spark back of having someone/thing depend on you to care for and love them? Get a parrot! And the best part is they wont go off to college in 18 years and only talk to you on christmas!

It's something called freeflight, believe it or not! Medium to large birds need a lot more room to fly than a cage or even whole house can offer them, so a lot of good owners will do freeflight training for their birds. Birds aren't as domesticated as dogs, but good owners know their birds well, and their birds feel safe with them because they see the human as part of their flock.

You know that the majority of pet birds will actually die when they're left outside or fly away? They can get disoriented and scared very easily, also get eaten by predators or can catch diseases or will just starve or freeze to death. I feel like most people who'll make these type of comments actually have no clue about bird care and that you can indeed have birds live a happy and healthy life inside a house. It's not like these animals are catched in the wild these days and held captive by humans. On the other hand even when there are pet birds that escape and survive outside and procreate this is a whole different problem because they can become an invasive species in that area. Which can turn into more suffering for the animals when they turn into a "problem" and humans decide to hunt them bc of that (look up quaker parrots in madrid). That goes for other pets too or do you think it's a coincidence that the most common "outdoor pet" the house cat is one of the most problematic invasive predators in the world? Giving pets a enriching happy life is important of course but just being like "pets should be free" is ignorant and irresponsible both for the pets and local ecosystems.
@timonalexandr1517 күн бұрын

Bird owner here! My dusky conure free flies and anytime she spots/senses a hawk or predator of any kind, she’ll alert me with a screech and hide away in a tree or come straight to me where she knows she’s safe. She’s green so she blends with the trees. She also will recall to me by going “BEEP BEEP” to make sure I’m nearby and to let me know she’s okay. I’ll usually respond with my own “BEEP BEEP” to let her know I hear her and she’s safe. Birds are smart! And even being raised by humans they still have amazing instincts.

We rescued a baby pigeon back in the day, we nursed and raised him for about a year, we taught him to fly and mingle with the other pigeons. When it was time, we wrapped one of his legs with string for identification and set him free. He came back almost every week pecking at our glass back door, we’d let him in, feed him and let him back out. Birds are smart animals, if you raise them right and build that trust. They’ll always come back. This guy definitely treated his bird well.
