This is exactly what I was looking for! When I was young I distinctly remember a plasma ball at a science museum which had a built in control knob for varying the amount of tendrils in the ball. I have searched for years and never seen another one like it, I couldn’t even find any information about the circuitry. The only thing I could find was the Wikipedia page, which simply confirms their existence and nothing more. I can’t wait to modify my cheap plasma ball to have a control knob, thanks so much for the informative video!

The rest of the circuitry is there for the momentary "clap" ON option. The non potted core transformer that was in mine didn't handle arcing very well being driven with a Mazzilli ZVS, it burned out quickly.. was probably driving it at the wrong frequency
