Love the fact that you say it's crap from at the beginning

Sorry for your monetary loss, but grateful for you sharing the results with us, Andy. Glad your non-variable IR filter works like a charm.

Thanks for the Video! Since you had such problems but I wanted to try it anyways, I ordered this fotga variable ir filter over amazon because of their free return policy. But gladly - mine seems to work perfectly. Maybe this effect depends also on filter size and lens combination?
@analogueandy8x107 күн бұрын
That is probably likely. I'm glad it worked for you! I chucked mine. I need a filter that I can trust and be able to use on all my lenses, long or short focal lengths. Cheers!

Outrageous! Thanks for your video and buying the filter so we don’t have to.

Planning to test this filter. There is opinion that banding appesr on a wide angle lens.

I got banding even with normal focal length, or with long focal lengths. Let me know how it goes, though!

You know what I'm glad I ran into this. I had got an ND filter that did that that. I thought to myself wtf I was getting ready to buy the same kind of adjustable infrared filter. Glad I ran into this vid. I'm going with what you suggested because that's what keeps on coming up

Yup! Don't waste your money, Michael! If you are using IR films, spend it on a proper filter. Even a cheap Zomei 720 will do. Cheers!

I discovered your review right after purchasing mine. I was quite anxious when it arrived, but I’m pleased to report that my copy is working perfectly with a 50mm lens. I will test further with wider Focal length which could cause issues. Though it is also possible that 'Fotga' has a quality assurance problems? Thanks for you review...

Same thing for me - baught the filter fingers crossed after watching this video. - but filter is working exceptionally well on my IR modded Lumix FZ200 from ultra wide angle to super zoom. Got lucky, too I guess?!

these work with fullspectrum cameras. have you converted your camera to full spectrum? th reason it doesnt work with normal cameras is because there is already a UV-IR cut filter before the sensor that cuts out UV and IR. so what you are doing with that filter is cutting visible light and UV so only IR passes through but when only the IR passes through it then hits the UV-IR filter and then cuts the IR out. So you are essentially filtering all forms of light out. when you go full spectrum you are removing that UV-IR so you will be viewing UV-Visible Light-IR and then with that filter it cuts out everything except IR and thats how you get IR images. you need to be full spectrum for this to work, and they work fantastic by the way

That's good to know! I don't think I would ever convert my D850, though. My infrared work is mainly with IR film, not digital.
@pwklau3 ай бұрын
That is what I thought as well why it does not work. But could it also be the long exposure time , the high ISO and large aperture that you need to use while shooting infrared with a non converted camera.
@analogueandy8x103 ай бұрын
@@pwklau possibly. At least with a converted camera, you wouldn't need such a filter. I shoot mainly with IR film, so I'll have to see if it'll work with it...

@@analogueandy8x10 Oh, I have a full spectrum converted camera and am considering to get a variable IR filter for it. Hopefully it works ok with my full spectrum converted camera. Good informative video.

Must have been that brand, then. Maybe I'll take a look at the filters that you mentioned 🙂

I don't know what is more cringe, you using katakana or me being able to read them and knowing the difference between Kana and Kanji.

Honnestly I don t understand how they can do a variable in filter. I suspect they add a variable polarized filter behind a 580 nm one… so bullshit indeed. Thx anyway I saved 20$ :)
