My 2014 Chevy Malibu 2.5 L is throwing code P0014. It started a month ago and went off after two hours of being on, then it would come and go for a few weeks. Now it has been on for 2 days in a row without going off. I just ordered the VVT Solenoid Intake and exhaust. Is it best to replace both when replacing one of them? I don't have a way to test the so i figured just replace both and go from there.

What you'll wanna do is get something like a long screwdriver..then at the base where u removed the bolt from..kinda pry it away from valve cover to get it to spin..so the seals free up..then just move it back and forth so it becomes easier...then begin to try to pull it out by wiggling it out..also rotating it so u keep freeing it from whats holding it.

Hows ur oil level? Sometimes if the oil level is kinda low it may affect the function of em..other than that maybe its a defective one or the actuator may be sticking.

If my car keeps going into limp mode and i keep getting a camshaft pos code but when i have the vvt disconnected it doesnt die or go in to limp mode but still runs a little rough what does that mean
@backyardchevy328

Usually means the sensor is causing it to run that bad..disconnecting it..the computer doesnt have the information from the bad sensor so it tries to compensate

I did this repair, same P0013 code keeps coming back even after clearing the code multiple times. Installed AcDelco sensor, including connector, new Castrol synthetic oil change, new plugs. Haven't noticed any rough idling or driving issues before or after. Any ideas what to check next? Chevy dealer wants $112 to test it. I've been trying to figure this out since I bought the car 2 months ago. 2008 Malibu 2.4L. Especially liked the test you did using the multi-meter on the solenoid. Great job on the video!

It could even be the actual cam sensor normally the most common reason for that code is this vvt solenoid but they do also have a cam sensor which can go bad and cause this code

I have the same issue. I replaced the exhaust sensor and i replaced both the intake and exhaust solenoids. After that fix my car seemed less sluggish in acceleration but the check engine light popped back on and it's almost time to get my plates renewed. I also did have a p0420 but I dont have catalytic converter money right now...oh well is yours fixed now? 2009 Malibu

Backyard Chevy do you have a video replacing the cam sensor? I replaced the solenoid but my engine light didn’t go right off like yours did. Should it go off right away?

@@kathys.4241 i erased it manually with my scanner, but the code never returned, but usually only minor problems go away on their own without resetting computer, since this repair is considered more major it may not erase itself.

@@backyardchevy328 thank you. My malibu just started acting up. At a complete stop or about to take off, it wants to die and when I keep pressing the gas, it suddenly takes off, could that sensor be the problem?

@@pollym.2126 could be it does affect the engine's timing(which is when the computer tells the spark plugs to fire), in some cases it affects it worse than others depending on how bad the sensor is...does it only have that code/s? Or any others?

@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 3 жыл бұрын
It is possible that its malfunctioning but not all the time and that wouldnt trigger the code..the computer performs diagnostic checks and it would have to stay on for 3 or so of those in a row to trigger code...but replacing parts can get expensive..so if there's a way to check the sensor like in the video..or sometimes u can remove the sensor and it may be dirty and that could cause problems too.
