Its insane that their betrayals are so similar, and both of them even thought about changing their minds, until Rapunzel used the wrong words in both situations. For Varian, she used the word "promise" but after she broke her last promise to him, you can't blame Varian for not trusting her again. Then, for Cass, she said "Wait" and Cass had been waiting for so long, she couldn't stay patient any longer.

Casses was also kind of known but it was never really told in the same way as Varian so it was more of a shocker like we were all on the fence while with Varian we knew it was in some way shape or form gonna happen.

The similarities are striking: Both do it in the last episode of the season, the behavior is almost the same, the mode is almost the same, the type of execution is almost the same, both steal a magical object, *BUT* Varian steals the flower, which was to heal and represents the light, while Cassandra steals the stone, which is to destroy and represents the darkness, and I don't think that this is a coincidence at all... in fact, Varian was never really evil, despite his pain being super comprehensible and despite having always been super aware of the evil he did, and from the fact that he wanted to steal the sun drop, you can understand how he's a person basically with more light inside rather than darkness, a shining person into whom darkness has entered, an altruistic, understanding and friendly person, strongest (only apparently more insecure) , but also more instinctive, anxious and malleable than Cass, and therefore he was brought for redemption... obviously just reverse all this speech, and so Cassandra's description will be given! They're two sides of the same coin, they're complementary, like yin and yang ... they're so real, intense, human ✨💜👍🏻

kkstar 12 It is crazy. These scenes are way too similar and so is the run time. Someone said, "Cassandra's betrayal was intense and Varian's makes sense" lol. I agree. I heard that Varian IS suppose to have a number in a group song at some point in the next season. I hope that's true. More of Jeremy's/Varian's angelic singing voice! Squeeeee!!!!😍 You know how everyone theorizes that Gothel might be the mother or ancestor of Cassandra? What if Zhan Tiri is the baby daddy? 😳 I'm not saying they got together to make a baby, but got together to "make a baby". Like essence of the moon stone and/or Zhan Tiri's magic allowing Cassandra to be conceived. Probably a dumb theory, but I'm trying to think of possibilities and make sense of some things. Like, maybe this is Cassandra's reason to exist if all else fails then she has to step up. I'm probably the only one that thought about Zhan Tiri being the baby daddy though. 😂 Also, Varian was said to have a big role to play and maybe this will finally be it! If the made Varian and Rapunzel the total opposite on purpose, demanitus' device is a combination of science and magic, what if Varian and Rapunzel have to combine their sources of magic and science together to actually destroy Zhan Tiri and put an end to his magic and tyranny. Also, Chris Sonnenburg said the letter to Varian is indeed very important. They better give my boy the spotlight this time.

He is in the group song number in season 3 episode 2. So now we'll FINALLY get to see him in the show again. It's crazy to think the last time we actually got to see him was in Secret Of The Sun Drop. I REALLY hope that Xhan Tiri isn't Cass's father nor do I want to believe that she is indeed Mother Gothel's daughter. This show would end in total disaster if all of that about her is true. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens when the show returns.

I highly doubt that Cass is Mother Gothel's daughter. I can't believe that our first episode is Cassandra's Revenge. I think Xhan Tiri's got her. It's actually been a year and a little over a half since the last time we've seen Varian. I just can't wait to see him again. Just heard from one of my friends in my RTA facebook group page that he's going to be in season 3 episode 2. I'm not sure if we'll see him before the group number, all I know is that he's in it. I've missed my little buddy so much. I hope he heals very soon.

The reason Cassandra betrayed Rapunzel is because she felt tired of feeling pushed aside. In the episode “Rapunzel and the Great Tree” Rapunzel was putting most of her trust in Adira rather than Cassandra. Not only that but Rapunzel tells Cassandra that she doesn’t need to keep her safe. Cassandra felt like she was waiting for her moments to shine but when they came they got thrown out for Rapunzel. It explains in the song “Waiting in the Wings”. Then finally in the season 3 premiere episode “Rapunzel’s Return” we open up in the room Cassandra went into in the House of Yesterday’s Tomorrow and we find out she was the daughter of Mother Gothel. All of these reasons are what led Cassandra to betray Rapunzel in the season 2 finale “Destinies Collide”. Sorry for this long comment but I hope this explains everything on why Cassandra betrayed Rapunzel.

@@ericcoronado6204 Aaaah no, no I meant that I don't understand them because her reaons seem VERY absurd to me, especially coming from the one who is supposed to be the sensible one of the group. I mean, there is what you say, but there is also that, basically, she listened to a ghost that she does not know or look trustworthy and, not only did she blame Rapunzel for receiving a power that she didn't ask for BEFORE BIRTH, but Cass also blames her for being kidnapped being a BABY by the mother who abandoned her actuall child and was clearly negligent with her. But nooo, apparently a stupid musical box is quite a big proof of love compared to everything else, compared to everything that has happened to Rapunzel or the years that her adoptive father raised her. A proof of love big enough to defend this witch who did so much bad to Rapunzel, that she had Eugene dead, but still blames them for her mothers death, giving the benefit of the doubt to her abandoner mother and the spirit that tells her that her destiny will only be fulfilled if she destroys the kingdom that raised her and her friends, which she hardly doubts (and they are just words, they didn't put a spell on her or anything), but still accepts. All this to stop only when her powers leave, how convenient ¬.¬ It is for all this that I don't understand or sympathize with Cassandra's motivations, if it were only what you say I would believe it more

@@dolphinsnape exactly. All this because she’s victim blaming a baby for her mom leaving her. I know abandonment from your parent can be traumatizing, trust me I know, and even though that’s not something I take lightly and yeah it can effect you throughout adulthood. HOWEVER, trauma doesn’t make you suddenly stupid. I’m not down playing Cassandra’s trauma and she has a right to be upset, but that still doesn’t excuse her behavior in the slightest. Varian, yeah they actually keep giving me reasons to justify his actions, not to say he’s entirely justified but he wasn’t wrong either because of the unjust legal system and a whole kingdom that turned against him because of the king persecuting him as an adult with fake crimes, being hunted down for months like a dog, chased out of his home, not getting any help from Rapunzel unless it involves getting answers, being neglected for months, not having any reasons to trust his abusers and enablers of his abuse, and if he didn’t fight back-he would’ve die from exposure and/or starvation or the hangman’s noose. And all because that poor orphan was let down by the adults who are legally responsible for him. Season three just kept giving me more reasons to say, Varian was right all along for the reasons that he was surviving for himself and his dad and there was literally nothing he could’ve done different. But cass? She has mommy issues. Her trauma isn’t any less traumatic as the other characters nor is it more important than any of theirs. Nobody gets a free pass because they were sad once. Remembering your past trauma doesn’t make your brain shut down. Even having a mental breakdown or panic attack still does not render you completely senseless and anything done under extreme pressure like that is temporary. You don’t wind up acting bananas constantly for over a year. Again, I know this personally. There are people who suffer from complex-PTSD and some abuse survivors who are and would be offended by Cassandra’s story. Not the least of which because it actively dumbs her down. And Varian was still fighting for survival at that very moment in time after everything in season one, being locked away with a grown ass man for a year in a confined jail cell (a man that could’ve done anything to him), having his personal space invaded to a degree, being groomed into a child soldier and none of the mains cared about that or the fact that the king broke his promise. Just one big middle finger to the abused and people with actual PTSD while stating they condone real life abuse and abuse of power. And why? Because king Frederick is the creators self insert character and the self insert character is the father of the main character. And Cassandra is the creators favorite character and he doesn’t want to hold either one of them accountable. Doesn’t want to hold Rapunzel responsible for anything she did to Varian even though she and her father are legally responsible for him, but he’ll hold Rapunzel responsible for Cassandra even as far as to victim blame her as a baby. I swear, Chris Sonnenburg is off his meds. Chris Sonnenburg stated the song “the girl who has everything”, was meant to tell people that Rapunzel has everything while Cassandra has nothing. Bull. Cassandra had 23 years of freedom, got to live a luxurious lifestyle in the castle, got everything she wanted in season one after working for it, got a medal from her father and called hero of Corona after stopping Andrew, got to work on a missing person’s case assigned by her father (and was the first he asked to, he wasn’t low on men), and even got to lead an army. Then she was promoted to Rapunzel’s personal bodyguard which is the highest honor. Dropped everything for Rapunzel my foot. You can’t show a character get everything she dreams of and say something else. Her character arc came in full circle in season one. If they wanted to write Cassandra as a sympathetic character by saying Rapunzel holds her back (yeah a 19 year old was holding a 23 year old adult woman back) and to state that said character never gets whatever she wants, and was always cast aside for Rapunzel, well there’s a narrative rule that states SHOW don’t tell. Show me that Cassandra is a sympathetic character, show me that’s what happens, don’t just tell me and expect me to be dumb enough to believe that bs after everything I saw. Their only gain “sympathy” tactic for this character is show me that her mom left her when she was four but even that’s not enough to make me feel for her. Once again, she got to live a normal life with a loving father. She had plenty of chances to build relationships and further her career for 18 years while Rapunzel was in a tower, and Rapunzel returning from said tower didn’t cut her off from anything. In fact Rapunzel being rescued from the tower actually presented more opportunities for her and she spent all of season one climbing up the ranks. But all of that is undermined because mommy issues. Cassandra was planned to be a villain five years before the series aired. And they had more than enough time to set up a better arc for her. Like she believed Rapunzel was irresponsible and couldn’t be trusted to save the world, cass believed the moonstone can heal her hand that Rapunzel injured, cass wants to fight the unjust legal system and fight for everyone and not just herself even varian, have cass believe she’s fighting against Zhan tiri not knowing she’s being manipulated by her yet, cass plays along with Zhan tiri to stall for time until she figured out how to stop her like she did with Andrew, cass wants to use the rocks to save people only for it to go badly, cass wants revenge for her mother against king Frederick for taking her mother’s only life support (but that would be holding Chris’ self insert character accountable for something and we can’t have that), Cassandra turned out to be saporian and she wanted to use the moonstone and the rocks to take back her people’s land and maybe even possibly avenge the death of her parents who were executed under king Frederick’s orders (but again, no accountability for the self insert), or possession. Any of those would’ve worked way better than what we got. Even wanting to just follow in her mother’s legacy after seeing fake memories of her. Because honestly, Cassandra saw for herself how awful gothel treated her, why would she care to get worked up enough to be destructive over a woman who didn’t care for her? And yeah, like you said, a music box is all the proof one needs to assure a shred of love for someone. Smh.

Nah, Cassandra was showing signs of aggression toward Rapunzel throughout their "friendship." Cass getting mad at Rapunzel, taking the spotlight during challenge of thr brave, and then undermining Rapunzel in the same episode by hiding her weapon in the final event. Cassandra gloating about the people of Vardrous liking her edgier events more than Rapunzel's and escalating the tension between them by rubbing her face in it when Rapunzel tried to apologize to her. And that's just off the top of my head. Cassandra showed signs, building up to her ultimate betrayal of Rapunzel that Varian never showed building up to his.

@dolphinsnape Oh, you mean during the song "Nothing left to lose?" Yeah, it was pretty obvious that Cassandra was set to go forward with what she planned to do. No way Varian was about to change her mind. But I liked the thought of Varian who did a 360 in character development where he starts off good and turns bad for a while only to go back to the light, trying to convince Cassandra not to make his mistakes was engaging and the best pay off to his redemption arc, inspite of how futile him convincing her was. Plus, Varian and Cassandra singing a duet was great.

@dolphinsnape I will admit, I dislike the favoritism the narrative showed Cassandra during her villain arc. Everyone pretty much coddled her and refused to hold her accountable for anything. I was particularly annoyed with how she acted toward Eugene. I wish he had been more stand offish with Cassandra instead of just caving into Rapunzel's unhealthy codependency on Cassandra.

Because he was neglected by adults responsible for him, the king persecuted him with fake crimes to cover up his mistakes, vilified him, the king sent his men to hunt him down like a dog for months chasing him out of his home, and if he didn’t die from exposure and/or starvation-he would’ve died from the hangman’s noose and who would save him from that. Not Rapunzel. He has no reason to trust his abuser as well as those who enabled his abuse. Victims have every right to fight back against their abusers regardless of who they are. And to do what it takes to survive for themselves and their family.
