I rarely compare myself to Boz but I am 1000% on the same wavelength as him about the garage gym vs. group class. I love the affiliates and drop in often whenever I travel around the world. But every time I do, I am once again thankful for my garage gym and eager to get back to it. It is MY space, MY time and MY sanity!! Thanks to you both for these awesome chats and wisdom!

I have not owned a garage since starting CrossFit. Condos and apartments only. Luckily I own an affiliate now, but you better believe my next home has a simple garage gym. Right now, sandbags in the living room dodging kiddos is my garage gym.

I coach at the local box but as we don't have a Teens class (lack of demand) I've build a home box where my daughter does my programming 4 days per week and comes into he box twice a week with me. A nice happy mix. My daughter and I will do partner WODs which are great fun (and hard....she smokes me!)

Great episode. I have different size sandbags, dumbbells, a set of rings, jump rope, a box, a weighted ruck and just recently got a rower. I love my home gym and training in my space. Thanks for your podcasts... one of my favorite.

Great episode. I remember starting out in 2008 or so, I just followed mainsite and the fun was finding substitutions when I could. I still enjoy my home gym!

Hey Fellas, been following you for a while, love you guys. I came in late here, just found this podcast and am going through back episodes to get caught up. Feedback request, and it seems you have gotten better at this so keep it up: when you say something like, 'it depends', or, 'for example', or, 'a million different ways', etc. Please elaborate. It depends on what, and give an either/or. Cite as many different of the major examples or million ways of something. ive been diy'ing crossfit for a while, and this has been such a great consolidated source of info/topics that I take notes during these. and I cant be the only one 😀🏋🤓

Great content, thanks guys! While I don't do my own programming, I value understanding the machinations of how programming happens. Whether you are a garage athlete or not, if you enjoy geeking out and analyzing the how and why of programming, this is an episode for you.

"physiology is not so delicate". Totally agree with Boz. As soon as the basics are right (movements, time domain and load/intensity) there is no need to nerd out excessively on workouts. The body will respond anyway

The suggestion to write down a list of exercises for each piece of equipment is great starting from just a floor and your body

I’m a COVID convert to the garage gym model (I miss the community and competition of group classes but I never have to shut down or wear a mask at home). Completely random: how the heck do I update my stats on my CrossFit athlete profile? Can you make an instructional video on that? I can’t even get into the area where you put your max lifts and I’ve made some progress at home that I want to publish, ha!

If I have limited access to varying weights, I.E. just 1 set of dumbbells, only a barbell and 2x45s, just body weight, etc. I’ll incorporate pause/timed eccentric and concentric lifting to build time under tension. Some of my most sore sessions have been because I did 5 sec descents with 50lbs for dumbbell bench into an explosive lift for 10 reps for 5 sets, and trying to keep the rest less than 75 seconds. That got tough fast. Can obviously be used for any barbell movement and any body weight movement, pull ups being my favorite/most painful

Hey fellas! I have a question that might be a fun one to discuss on the show. You know Glassman’s quote about the 3-minute L-sit providing unparalleled midline stability? I definitely think he’s on to something, but I look at most CF gyms and never see L-sits programmed. I try to program them 1-2 times per week, but I only run personal training for now. What do you think about that standard, and how should coaches implement them in a group class setting? Is the 3-minute standard a goal for competitors or for average Joes too? Love the podcast! I listen on my way to personal training clients’ homes and it gives me very actionable ideas every time. Nate

I’m laughing so hard about the jumping Jacks! My husband and I had a training session and the coach had 1 minute of jumping Jacks in our warm up. My husband looks at the clock and said holy f&*k it’s only been 15 seconds 🤣

Question - You both have only 3 WODs to test for the fittest on Earth…..What would you programme and why?

Here is the original crossfit doublet invented by bodybuilders, the chest expander: 20 barbell squats immediately followed by 15 dumbell pullovers :-)

I'm way to social and competitive to be alone in a garage, but do have friends who do it and have stronger and better results than me.
