Hats off to Vario for building this watch! Very functionally interesting design for not a lot of money. Relative to the overall size of the watch, it looks chunky. Then again due to its overall size, it clearly wears just fine. As for crown action, being quartz you'll hardly ever have to mess with it anyway. As always, a well done review my friend.

I was very much into the watch until i saw how it looks right after you showed the cartier on your wrist. i knew it'd look taller but i think i underestimated it a bit, so i'm definitely unsure about getting one now. perhaps not the way i expected to go after this review but that's what these videos are about right? finding out what you like and dislike without risking any money of your own. keep up the vids!

Thank you and yes I get you. I think for the price and what you are getting it’s fair. Reversos are thicker than the tank so that would’ve been a more apt comparison but I don’t own a reverso anymore!

This to me is a poor man's Cartier Tank/Longines DolceVita/Jaeger LeCoulture Reverso blend. I just ordered the new 2nd release silver/black combo on a burgundy red strap... all for $540 CAN. Very happy camper. It has classic design features and modern functionality. Vario and Boldr are my favourite Singaporean microbrands. The Boldr Venture Earth (recycled Ti) on a Ti bracelet is the other fave in my modest 10-piece collection of under-$500 watches.

Great concept and well-executed, but how do you change the battery of this thing?

Just assuming you have to take it apart a little, some screws and what not. An experienced watchmaker would have no problem but I would be a little lost drying it on my own of course

Very impressive "bargain Reverso" from Vario. I like both dials (especially the lacquer/enamel style) and the ability to track two time zones is a plus. Much nicer than the Zephyr. It is a bit thick and battery changes may be complicated, but overall, a lot of dress watch for $400. Great review.

I think it is quite beautiful, well executed and very unique for its price point. Though, my concern would be what happens when the battery dies and it's due for a battery swap. Looks like it might be a bit cumbersome when that time arrives. Anyways it reminds me of the Nove Gemini (I think that is the name) however this is significantly cheaper and a different form factor. Hats off to Vario.

Absolutely agree and yes maybe the batter changing won’t be as standard. I assume the screwed portion leads into the cases for the batteries pretty self explanatorily to somebody who actually Works on watches. That’s a problem for 6 years from now haha

Really nice reverso alternative. Problem, I find the silver dial side looks far superior to the coloured side (to which may not want to reverse it). An ability to reverse it while on the wrist would have also been a nice party trick. But for price, cant really fault it. Btw, couldnt help but notice the bel canto looks very big. I have smaller wrist so cant wait for that video.

@@arcadevampire fair points and yes the bel canto is definitely bigger. Wears similarly to let’s say an omega speed master. The camera being close always dramatizes the size slightly but it is on the bigger side of what I normally like to wear

Having had both in hand I can absolutely say the zephyr feels like the cheaper case. The dial is maybe a little cooler on the lorier but as a watch I like this more:

Vario is one of my favourite microbrands , they always create unique designs. I own one of the Empire and I love wearing that watch. This one also looks stunning , for a microbrand to be able to apply this kind of design which includes 2 watch faces and it is under 500$?!? mind blowing. well done.

Vario has done something really great here and knowing that they read the comments I have to ask for a thinner, single-sided, non-flipping variant. I like the idea of it but the thickness is just too much for me when it comes to a watch like that. Again couldn't ask for a better review, great work.

Totally agree. And yes I think coming out with a more direct tank competitor that’s thinner or then making the watch one sided and having the back side for engraving making it thinner with one movement could be great iterations. i think you are selling it too hard. there are too many negatives to justify spending 400$ on it for me personally. i love vario as a brand and have many of their straps. and i respect the fact they are designing watches out of the box thinking and taking risks, but this one should have been scraped in my opinion before production, you point the issues with it very well and you are spot on. but you are saying that you can live with most of them. i dont think it should be like that with watches. too many flaws= pick another one. if they address most of the issues you mentioned like the screws and thickness and gaps. they have a winner. i am still waiting for vario to make a watch i actually like and consider buying.....

To each their own most of the flaws here again I don’t really consider an issue. Every watch has its quirks and this one I still think objectively is just very fun and good value overall. Just my opinion

This is way more interesting than the Lorier Zephyr. Dial = Zephyr wins in guilloche, but Versa wins in dual dial. I wish Versa can add a guilloche dial on one of its dial. Case design = Versa wins. Unique take on Tank + Reverso design. Zephyr offers a tonneau barrel shape case, a sterile caseback, for any engraving request at additional $35. Fun factor = Definitely Versa wins. Movement = depends on what you looking for Strap = definitely Vario Wear = Wears smaller than the Zephyr, more versatile. Finishing = From photo wise, i say Versa wins hands down. Brushed and Polished combo. Looks more elegant than Zephyr. Price = Versa is cheaper than Lorier Zephyr not by much though, so i say a tie. Overall as a package, I say Vario Versa is a win. You can get the Zephyr if you want a Barrel dressy watch, but this Versa is way more fun and unique.

Can’t really argue! If the vario had a guilloche side that would be a cherry on top for sure. It’s a very cool watch that I liked in person a lot more than I thought I would. Glad it exists!
