Just a thought, next grinder comparison, use an IR thermo gun and see which one is heating the grinds more.

Instead of using IR, use a thermal camera. They are very inexpensive (look for "Flir one", the third generation is due to be released very soon) in about 200-350 depending on the version. That will give you a much better picture of what is happening :).

This video gave me the impression that if you compared the Sette 270 to the regular Vario, it wins hands down. It's the same fineness at a fraction of the grind time and $100 less. Anyone who has any business experience will conclude the Vario will eventually be discontinued. It doesn't make sense otherwise, unless I'm missing something.

Bob Strenger probably right. ivr had my vario for about a year and am on my 2nd belt not very amazed with the quality.on it for a 500 dollar grinder.

well since its fairly a new machine and its the first version, wouldn't that mean that it is probable that it will have some troubles? and do they offer insurance?

Conical burr grinders wil always heat more the coffe that a big flat burr. So my opinion is that , Vario is better that Sette for expresso.

Vario does have a manual mode, unless they got rid of it for the W version. On my non W version you just press the button on the right first then start stop. I see that's now a Tare button so maybe they did get rid of that feature.

It would work well with the Appartamento! The Sette will also come in a W version, something to think about.

Would the Sette be good enough (grind fine enough, and consistent) to pair with a Linea Mini? or would the Linea Mini require a commercial grinder?

Kevin Ang If your going to go all out and get a Linea you might as well go all out on the grinder. The grind is the most important thing.

@@Iceman-xe7jo hey mate, thanks for the reply. Ended up not going with the linea mini. Grinder wise I was using the HG-one. Now using Niche. Maybe will think about linea mini in a few years. Shame the price keeps climbing.

Baratza Encore : Very good for French press. Baratza Virtuoso : Best ... less fines (resulting in less bitter taste).

+Taco ...or the Rocket Fausto - both at double the price. I'm guessing the Mazzer and Rocket are more durable, but I'm wondering if there's any difference in the espresso between any of them for home use.
