wildcat052655 - I think Hanley has some really great eyes, and I like the little smerks that he makes and the tilt of his head when making a sarcastic remark.

Leonard Nimoy no less. I wonder how any of the Germans in the house could have withstood the 2 50 cal. guns, BAR and Thompson machine gun.

Two Ma Deuces and so few KIA or WIA? No Way! Sorry, I've used them and there is no way that wooden cabin wouldn't be swiss-cheesed and everyone inside a candidate for bodybags.

+ShastaPacificRoad I never got to fire one, but I've seen film and held the rounds. Heck, that many rounds out of two M-16s should have killed/wounded a lot more! Of course, I thought they fired high. I know I'd be hugging some serious floor if I had been in there! But it's TV - how else could they have a Vulcan along?

+MemphoOnTheMississippi With so many of the cast and crew being WW2 or Korean War vets that little glitch should have been caught. I think they got a bit forgetful but, like you say, it's TV. Even with some of the obvious details being wrong or being tweaked to fit the script it's STILL better than a lot of the BS on TV now.
@memphoonthemississippi6429 жыл бұрын
+ShastaPacificRoad Absolutely! I love the show but sometimes make a game of these small glitches. My biggest pet peeve is splicing in tank footage from 1939 Poland, etc. for 1944 France; the worst single thing was the episode they spliced in footage of Stukas making a bomb run as attacking a huge flight of P-47s (which they showed with belly tanks AFTER they showed the same planes without) and shooting down a US ace and his wingman. If you haven't, check out Tour of Duty on KZbin. I remember it from TV broadcast very positively but am going to finish re-watching Combat! in sequence before I re-watch it. (I did re-watch the pilot - really nice.) HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
@ShastaPacificRoad9 жыл бұрын
+MemphoOnTheMississippi Can you imagine the COST of having actual aerial footage filmed specifically for this???? LOL! My guess is whoever pulled up the stock footage wasn't an AF vet so he/she didn't notice the difference between a 'clean' aircraft and one with stores on hardpoints or the incongruity of Stukas dogfighting fighters....LOL! Not impossible for the rear-gunner of a Stuka to get lucky or for a fighter pilot to be caught sleeping by a Stuka coming out of his blind spot but..... What gets me is US(or even a few Brit) tanks being used in place of German tanks. While the Germans DID make use of a few captured Shermans and halftracks, even some 75mm howitzers on an M3 chassis I seriously doubt it would have been in the numbers shown on Combat! and other shows of the period. If "Kelly's Heroes" could get period-correct AFV's....(yes, I DO know they filmed in Yugoslavia) but so did other films...! Program budget had a big part though...sigh.
@memphoonthemississippi6429 жыл бұрын
+ShastaPacificRoad So, how much more would it have cost to show a piece of off-the-shelf historical film of fighter to fighter dogfighting (i.e., Battle of Britain) in the 40s rather than an off-the-shelf Stuka dive bomber attack in 1939 as an attack on 1944 P-47s? There were NO Stukas on the Western Front in late 1944, and even lucky Stuka tailgunners up against P-47S would not have shot down an American ace AND his wingman. And how hard is it to figure out you should sequence film of the exact same planes WITH belly tanks BEFORE you show them WITHOUT belly tanks? It is a great series but the flaws are still flaws.

Standard mistake:In Waffen-SS a captain holds the rank of hauptsturmfuerer,not hauptmann,and a private would not call himself soldat,but SS-mann.Waffen-SS held their own ranks,to distinguish themselves from the regular army.Leaders were picked by merit,not social back-ground,to assure that the most suited and aggressive were chosen.You also had to prove yourself politically reliable,so general rules of war were often ignored,especially when ordered to.
