Varnishing The Superstructure Of A Vindö 45 - Mini Ep. 13 Thula Sailing

Unlike other sailing yachts the superstructure of the Vindö we sail on is made of finest mahagoni which needs a lot of care.
It's not a rocket science to keep the wood which we totally revarnished 3 years ago in good shape. It's all about the right techniques and diligence.

is a vindö 45 insulated? considering buying one for living and sailing in scandinavia, but winter can get pretty cold

When you first got Thula, did you completely take the varnish off? or just sand it back and add more layers? These how to videos are really really useful!

We took off the varnish! This way you get the same color everywhere.

What brand of mahogany red wood stain did you use? Where can I buy it? Any advice to cover the cracks in the superstructure and the tappet holes? Thanks

Seems like our old message was not sent :( We use Epifanes products that we bought in Europe. For big cracks you need to fill in new shaped magahony wood pieces with epoxy, for small ones you can use wood filler!

@@ThulaSailing Thank you, I was looking for Mahogany Stain Epifanes for Spain but hard to find, buying from abroad increases so much because the transport expense. I will check with my distributor. I own a Vindo 40 an I am actually with this work and thinking about 1st and second coat of West System Epoxy after the Stain and later 3-4 coats of Epifanes High Gloss Varnish to protect from UV. I am a little afraid because the hardness and low felxibility of Epoxy but I think it may work for the superstructure and it will help to avoid the moisture and rot wood. I had serious problems with leaks over the roof of the cabin.

Is this really a Vindö 45 with a blower in front of the cabin?

Yes it is... The blower is really nice in hot nights when the wind is blowing
