In this video we meet Maya and Aladino, a couple of sailors who are living full-time on their tiny 28-foot sailboat. They travel slowly with minimal belongings, and they keep their expenses low by doing most boat repairs themselves, and by living as cheaply as possible.
Sailing Magic Carpet is a 1979 Vindø 32 that was lovingly restored by Aladino, who is a certified boatbuilder. Their home-on-water can carry 100 litres of freshwater, it has a small fridge and stove, a 130-watt solar panel, and a 3-cylinder 20hp Yanmar engine.
Maya and Aladino are passionate live-aboard sailors who both learned how to sail and restored their own boats separately before meeting in Europe, falling in love, and moving onto Magic Carpet together.

Lovely. 💜 We can relate as we live part time on a 1959 wooden cruiser (28 ft plus swim platform and dinghy make 32 ft), and part time at our 1940's A-frame cabin. Living simply and mindfully has been a blessing for us in many ways, especially savings and spending time together. You are so right about having value and purpose. We feel Those are critical. (Those sacrifices and challenges allowed us to retire at 56, and though Covid created some permanent health issues, we get to enjoy some travel--and of course times with friends and family.) So happy you both get to have this experience! :)

You guys are awesome, and she came out beautiful!! I restored my 24ft cuddy cabin cruiser, when I was 22 years old. I'm now 48, and she's still my baby. With all new add-ons, electronics, as technology grows, always new things to purchase. My dad helped me, and taught me everything on his 32ft Boston whaler. We put a brand new head, and installed or replaced a very small shower. Although my boat is a pleasure boat, I just love sailboats. My father in law builds sailboats, in the U.S. As long as it's your's you made her your own, I love my small vessel, respectful of every ocean. And everything and more is in that vessel, if anything were to happen. Which so many people overlook. Stay safe, look forward to your adventures. 🙏 🌊 ⛵

Back in 1970 I was a US Marine stationed at the naval academy in Annapolis Maryland. I Acquired a 27’ Morgan sloop. Basically a day sail with a small cabin. The head was under the companionway steps. Same alcohol stove as you, but only a ice box. It had a 15 horse external saildrive. I spent many a weekend out on the Chesapeake Bay practicing my celestial navigation. There were no GPS back then. Still miss the water at 70 years old and bad health.

My grandparents retired early in 1982 and sold everything and bought a 42 ft sailboat named Robin. They lived on that boat and traveled the world on it until 2006 when we basically had to pull them off because the medically/ physically couldn’t do it anymore. I had the most amazing adventures with them visiting them in all different corners of the world for weeks at a time during my summer vacations. I feel so lucky and so happy for them

That's exactly what I tell people, that there's something magical about sailing that I can't describe. When you have an engine and you pin the throttle, that's it. When sailing, you have a million variables and you never know how far or fast you can go, how high into the wind you can point, the silence, the peace, the violence, the speed, the fear, all wrapped up into one beautiful thing. Sailing.

Wow. What a great story. The world is in good hands with young people like this. The message of not getting into debt by letting go of the old ideas of having the most, biggest, and greenest lawn on the block is hopefully over. They are showing us, along with what's happening in the world, right now, that we can do with much less. Thanks for bringing this story to us.

What they have done is quite worthwhile but far from unique. Joshua Slocum started it all when he circumnavigated aboard Spray from 1895~1898. He rebuilt an old 36 foot wooden fishing boat by himself. No motor, no electricity, no electronics, no telephone or internet. Canvas sails, galvanized wire rigging, hemp rope, no winches, windlass or self steering gear.

Wow amazing. I have been living in my 25 foot class A Winnebago warrior motorhome now for 2 1\2 years filming. I have gone through 9 states traveling 30,000 miles. I started after beating kidney cancer. I travel with my little dog Tinkerbell. I will be 60 in may and love living on the road. Not sure if I could ever live on the water but I love the way you guys are doing it.

Though the vast oceans and seas are awesome and magical, but also quite terrifying, in stormy conditions, especially for such small boats ! But I do enjoy following the adventures of you brave sailors !

@@SailingMagicCarpet How much are the mediterranean harbor fees (daily/monthly)? If I had a boat like that i would be mostly docked and live in it and split my time between Balear islands, Hvar Croatia and maybe Barcelona or Valencia. Do you pay taxes anywhere?

I've pissed most of my life away, and will continue to do so. One day, not long ago, I realized that I failed my dreams of when I was young when I still had hope for the future. but those dreams are gone. ........There is no greater sorrow, than to recall happiness, in times of misery. it will go so fast. the thing called time. and as it ends, you will be left with nothing but regret .

Why not make a status: Look at the days you have in front of you instead of what is behind ... people do not need to be young to be happy - and use the days in front of you to their best - to make other happy and help them start on their dreams - and try to achieve the best for your self ...
