Amazed at the comments here. Truly! I wonder who actually watched this video!! Yanis hints at an EU crisis because the EU's current Dublin Agreement policy in place - a nation should process those that are on their land internally (which in turn is why Italy received 600,000 refugees and migrants 3 years ago and had to process them there) - is ludicrous. That's the crisis he's referring to! As for the term 'invading' Europe....come on! When Western powers invade other countries and fuel conflicts, starting a domino effect of conflict in the middle East...perhaps they should take a LOT more responsibility for the lives directly affected by this!!!
@SI-cd7xs6 жыл бұрын
yeah problem is most migrants are now not coming from middle east but africa and they only started coming recently when 'open borders' wankers started inviting them, so that doesnt wash.

Majority are Economic Migrants! Just look at the breakdown from IOM or Eurostat. When you offer someone €900 / month, plus free housing, plus free education, plus free healthcare (as Austria does) then it is not surprising that this draws people looking for an easier life. The tragedy is that Economic Migrants suck resources away from legitimate refugees.

He's talking about migrants as if they were EU citizens with full travelling rights withing Europe. This is what nobody is understanding: there are written rules on travel with their restrictions, and those who are not EU citizens cannot enter Europe without proper document and or status. It's a basic rule all civil countries adapt to filter migration, and to help those who are in danger. Massive migration is a crisis that must be tackler at its roots; relabeling it or ignoring it won't make it go away.

I admire Yanis Varoufakis on a lot of topics but on this one he is wrong. Most of these migrants are economic migrants from sub-Saharan Africa and it is not the job of Europe to help these people invade our countries. Yes, people in distress on the seas, should be rescued but they must be returned to the point they entered the sea and their boats confiscated or sunk. Anyone who transports illegal migrants into European waters should be fined €100,000 per person transported and receive a lengthy prison sentence. Angela Merkel should be tried for treason.

justaphasebizarre Not to mention that it's been over 50 years since Europeans gave up colonies in Africa, all European countries send billions in foreign aid to African countries, yet we still see very little progress, because of the rampant corruption and religious fanaticism in most African & M.E. countries. They have to make progress on their own, we are not their Nanny. The African people have to fight to throw out their corrupt dictators, just like several European countries had to fight against their own dictatorships recently - and they did it! Italians, Spanish, Portuguese and others fought for democracy and brought down Mussolini, Franco and Salazar.. they didn't migrate or expect other countries to take care of them. Africans need to sort out their own mess.
@precuification6 жыл бұрын
just check some "free" trade agreements europe has with africa and than you will notice that your stated foreign aid argument is fucking bullshit. Europe and his companies still drain their economies. And this is not changed by the 0,43% foreign aid of the gross national income a year of the EU. It is almost ridiculous to think that would be even near enough to really push the african economies.
@justaphasebizarre6 жыл бұрын
"we would be near enough..." This just proves how narcissistic your reasoning is - We/Europe/the West/the white people need to save the world - what BS!!!! Varoufakis describes himself as a Libertarian Marxist. Err, two absolutely opposing ideologies!! As an economist I would ask him how much it is going to COST to bring 200-300 million Africans into Europe and how it will be PAID for? Macron saying that that 'Yes, welfare state will collapse' doesn't seem like much of an argument to me!!! Running around calling people Nazi's when the economy and social structures begin to implode is infantile beyond belief.

As usual Varoufakis is wrong. The immigration problem is devastating to countries who already refuse to guarantee a decent employment rate to their own people. On the EU level the immigration problem is caused by not demanding a stop to the wars, but instead some of the member countries are abetting and involved in the wars creating the "immigrants." The EC needs to debate whether or not it is the place of the EU to perpetuate the wars.

Why not take a haircut ? "The answer is purely political", says Yanis. Obviously it is. Europe isn't bailing out a corrupt, systemically & chronically malfunctioning Greek economy. Why should they work to 67 to bail out Greeks that retire at 45 ?
@Maximilian-Robespierre6 жыл бұрын
Greeks retire at 45. haha. So much for propaganda.
@vinm3006 жыл бұрын
George, you are quite right it is propaganda. But like all good propaganda it is based on an element of truth. " And some police and military workers have retired as early as age 40 or 45, Tsoukas said. There are also unique benefits for some workers." 'Unique benefits ', that smacks of cronyism and corruption : which is exactly what happened. For instance the Railways were packed with government supporters who had jobs created for them. An economics expert said it would have been cheaper for Greece to abolish the rail network and get taxis for all the travellers.
@Maximilian-Robespierre6 жыл бұрын
Police and military used to retire at around the age of 50 from 1950 and on. That is true. And it was sustainable until we joined the Eurozone. I am against retirement of such a young age, but at the same time calling a nation that works more hours than Germans and for much less money, lazy, thats shameless propaganda. It is used as an excuse to tax Germans etc, save bankrupt banks, and blame the Greeks. There was also the propaganda on "how many times did Greece got bankrupt", as if it is a racial thing, and not taking under consideration of the situations that the country go into (eg. wars, forced loans by British that occupied the country, 1930s crisis, etc) It kind of reminds me of something around the 30s. German officials alongside others, spread hatred between EU nations, hatred that was not there, instead of cooperating and finding solutions. Thankfully the majority of German people resisted to that propaganda (I think) and I have the most respect for them. And as far as "saving" they saved Eurozone. And Greece saved Eurozone. We lost around a 3rd of our GDP, something that can only be related to a period of war. Why dont we just work for a better Europe of collaboration, progress AND human rights, instead of wanting others to retire at the age of 70-80 etc. (we retire at 67 btw, and thats ok, but we dont work 8hrs/48p/w be sure about that). We need less hatred and more unity and respect.

I for my part wish him the best with the DiEM25 movement he helped start. Not like it could get worse than the right wing demagogues who should take a look at the wiki page on race and intelligence before embarassing themselves in public. I rather take a positive vision for an economically functional EU now that we're in there, we have all the money and infrastructure in the world to support dignified wages and income security for all people of the EU, while further supporting development in and outside of the EU with regard to immigration. By the way, feel free to check out Steve Keen's channel on youtube if you feel a little lost on the economic potential of the eurozone or any larger first world country for that matter.

As a German, I share a pronounced disappointment with Varoufakis in the CDU/CSU/SPD or at least their leadership. Judging em by their actions, one might as well consider em the party block of rich people and bankers, not functional economics for prosperity for all of germany, let alone the eurozone. Sure there's hope, they just need to drop the neoclassical act on economics and accept that in a currency where all money+debt cancels out to zero, government surplus/balanced budget means a dysfunctional private credit market and lack of demand, means less investment in the economy, less development. The euro was introduced also so germany doesn't have to live with a strong Deutsche Mark, something the people would benefit from, something that'd only hurt the profiteurs. We either go back to a state where germany experiences justified currency fluctuations (and individual states can run deficits to support development) or we federalize the EU to have actual investment spending from that instance to actually support aiming for similar development level of its member states in terms of capital deployment. To this day, not one policy to my knowledge was passed to achieve this in the southern parts of the EU, so of course the continual trade deficit will destroy em for lack of variable exchange rates. Not a good basis for development. Now germany's industry isn't very 4th industrial revolution ready either. So I'd rather take a union that can defy the distrust of international markets and make investments that are so needed both in the south and in the rest of the EU. I'm all for federalizing the EU, to run a federal budget deficit to support the private credit market and for economic development.

Some cultures ARE better than others in terms of freedom, liberty, DEMOCRACY, freedom of speech. Like it or not, if you import an alien culture into the West, cultures that have failed in these areas numerous times, the West will become a third world shithole. Those who can leave, will leave areas, then regions and then nations to escape those alien cultures, cultures with ideas that failed in their own nations and will fail in the West if applied when their numbers reach critical mass in a few decades. You CANNOT HAVE A WELFARE STATE AND OPEN BORDERS. People coming into UK etc from failed states with ideology opposite to the West will bring their failure with them. Areas of the globe heavily consanguinated and areas with measurable low IQ will utterly destroy welfare and pensions in a couple of decades. Those in the UK etc in their early 20s and 30s are paying into a fund for no return as in 25 years it will utterly fail as EURABIA and the Barcelona declaration are realised.
