In my opinion, comparing the development in India (whether in terms of Entertainment Industry or Military or any other field) to USA isn't fair, US just celebrated its 276th Independence and we are celebrating 76th, there's 200 years of difference and we have done fairly well in comparison!! It wasn’t just the religious population that was taken into consideration when it came to partition. One very important thing to note is the cultural impact it has going forward. The Brits (and perhaps some so called Indian leaders) didn’t want to just leave india. But they wanted to cripple it as well. If you study the actual history of the revolutionary movement, the leadership was concentrated around two states - Punjab and Bengal. We had leaders from all over, but these were the 2 states where they flocked to. the easiest way to destabilise the institutions was to throw them in this disarray. Another proof of this is in the plebiscite that was held. Hyderabad wanted to be a part of Pakistan as well. And religiously it qualified as well. But having Bengal and Punjab split into 2 was geopolitically more beneficially for the Brit’s. On reason was the leadership and another was the cutting off of access to both south east Asia as well as Central Asia
