I think one series to mention in terms of vfx creativity is the Harry Potter franchise. To show magic on screen, there wasn’t a previously existing frame of reference to work off of, so the makers had full flexibility to go nuts. And the interaction of flying objects, spells, new species and creatures while advancing the story forward and make it look SO GOOD is really impressive. As always, amazing discussion and great insight into advertisement CG bawa 👌🏼
@anushk71572 жыл бұрын
Oh I agree, the harry potter franchise's vfx & production design still stands the test of time (except sorcerer's stone). Prisoner of Azkaban which realised of almost 20 years ago still looks so much more believable than Bahubali or even RRR despite the HP franchise being so magic-heavy and a fantasy film in general. Most indian movies really lack the vision to mix production design's practical effects with vfx and of course the concept of colour grading & soft focus & motion blur for distant imagery.

Yes Neville thanks (fellow 3D artist here as well). Though Apratim, I would like to add contrary to Kautuk's point, that as per the looks of this teaser, even after several renders it won't be able to achieve photorealism or even a decent cinema-going experience, as the 3D model itself lack that kind of sculpting and structure, needed for photorealism, it instead would have to create 3D models from scratch it seems, which clearly they don't have the budget or time for, so please audience don't have expectations.

Love it when TISS talks about cinema. Bawa on direction and camera work, Kautuk on writing and Thakur on the acting part of movies/TV is a such a great discussion from all perspectives. On VFX in India, one thing I felt in Brahmastra (and Adipurush!) was that the Indian actors are still not used to acting in front of largely green screens.

@ahambhramasmi35692 жыл бұрын
Great video, a lot of solid points. like how Neville said that the directors vision and time are the reason why our VFX looks like what it is, and the planning that goes into it. But 90% of the technical explanation is completely wrong. Rotoscopy is not what Neville explained, roto is just a part of what Neville said, and for the particular example that he used sometimes wont even need roto(origin story of roto is correct though), and the part he said that the big-budget project being secretive, they are only secretive about the story, not the vfx every single department and every single artist have to work together and will have access to everything that particular studio is working on(the whole movie if its a major vfx firm) otherwise each shot will look different, everything in the movie has to look the same, being secretive completely fails the purpose. But all the issues and all criticism that you guys pointed out about Indian VFX industry and the comparisons with that of Hollywood is spot on, I hope more guys listen to this podcast and more Indian directors listen to this and learn what they are doing wrong. Sourse: I am a Hollywood vfx artist with about 11 years of experience, and have worked in few of the movies that you guys discussed, like Thor: Ragnarok and Top Gun.

I cant believe you guys forgot mentioning 'Koi Mil Gaya' while discussing VFX especially wrt India. All things said about Hritik's acting or the craziness of the movie concept and its memes, it truly was something for India VFX and more importantly vision that you guys were talking about. I even heard Hritik recently talk about the same where he says that the "VFX should be a bonus, not the main plot. Even if jaadu had come as a cardboard box you'd believe it because you were invested in the guy and empathised with his struggles". I found that pretty interesting so just felt like sharing even though im watching this 1 year later :p
