My Friends, please let me know if you would like to see more reviews of the oil brands. I know this is not a review - this is just a talk about Vasari oil paint I just got and I was so pumped up and decided to do this short episode about the Vasari brand. Please let me know what do you think. :)

@@gevenmariano942 check out Geneva oil paint from Mark Carder-- excellent paint -- very different. he puts a bit of clove in it to slow drying
@skrewler Жыл бұрын
@@annsmith3192 adding clove oil directly to the paint is one of the most asinine things I've heard. people are constantly trying to get their paints to dry faster, not slower. the other thing is, it's been known to cause weak paint films when added directly to paint. a "safe" way to use clove oil is to put some on a qtip and put it inside one of those masterson stay-wet palette trays. will keep your paints from skinning over for literally weeks.

I figured the name Vasari was in tribute to Giorgio Vasari (The book he wrote 'lives of the painters etc..' has had significant impact) Also, to help...Henri Rousseau (french) is famous for his innocent jungle paintings etc...look him up, lovely work, unique
@arturhakobyan68503 жыл бұрын
Hi, Vlad as I know oil does not separate from pigment if they had added some additives like wax etc. For example you will never see oil separation in lukas 1862 paints and in St.Pitersburg MasterClass tubes. They both add some wax and stabilizers to their paints. When they uses only oil and pigments in time there is always will be oil separation. After all it is not bad to have some wax in your paint at all, knowing there won't be oil separation in time. Thank you!

Indeed the fun begins when you show the colors - indeed beaurifull colors - but I suppose you might need to use the oilpaint in a thinner version? I think it looked like pretty stiff butter ?

I enjoyed this- and have had same experiences with materials shipped improperly packed, and equally know the feeling of wanting to buy more when materials are clearly treated with care and respect..am one always trying new brands, not because there is some holy grail, but to see how brands work, their characteristics..am also a fan of Masterclass.

I came to Masterclass thru a friend in Moscow, and buy from a Russian emigre in Vancouver Canada..it’s also intersting to see slightly different approaches to pigment selections from eastern countries..the cadmiums are very reasonable, but some mixed hues-Petersburg blue, and earths as well..

I have a lot of Vasari and there is definitely oil separation. It depends on the color because they do not add any additives, just pigment and oil. I don't like it when I see it but it is very easy to fix. Great paint nonetheless.

I ordered Utrect from Blick and two of the tubes were leaking, and they were badly packed. Heavy 150ml tubes just bouncing around in the box. I prefer metal tubes, but maybe if you are shipping paints you need to use plastic tubes.

Hello , I recently bought some vasari and right away I noticed the tubes were much lighter than the tubes I normally use. The first thing I thought was that they were so much lighter due to their high amount of pigment and less oil. I suppose more oil= more weight?

@@openstudiod to be honest, this is my first time buying a premium quality paint and it was kind of a letdown. I'm from Los Angeles, but currently live in Mexico. And we dont have quality brands where I live. So I ordered some form the US. I was kinda disappointed. I did tell my wife that something must've gone wrong because I've hear many professional artists talk wonders about vasari. And that encouraged me to buy them. So I'm sure that's very unusual

why are you checking if there's separation? if there is no separation, it's a sign they don't use additives. Old Holland uses castor oil for example -- stiff, expensive, garbage and most large companies use aluminum stearate. Michael Harding apparently uses a minimal amount of wax in the pigments that need it however, if there is excessive separation -- like a ton, it could be a sign that (if they don't use ANY additives) they didn't run thru the mill enough times, used excessive oil, or didn't "age" the paint. 15 drops of oil is nothing, rofl.
@openstudiod Жыл бұрын
Maybe 15 drops is nothing for the person who understands the chemical process of making oil paint… but for the artist it is very anoing
@skrewler Жыл бұрын
@@openstudiod so you'd rather them use additives? it's the nature of using oil paint in tubes w/o additives. I guess, some people like their oil paint to be more like toothpaste consistency. store them cap down or shake the tube up if it really bothers you. or use another brand that uses stabilizers
@openstudiod Жыл бұрын
Not at all, my point was that one tube was completely waisted… half of the tube was just oil. And that tube was not cheap. I love Vasari product and use it all the time.

The downside of all that great packaging is all the waste that it generates, foam, bubble plastic...
@ltwig4767 ай бұрын
Sure but it is such small scale in comparison to all the mass products being delivered to your home every month. What, do you prefer your beautiful precious linens not be wrapped in enormous plastic and full of bugs and rotting? Maybe you would be happier living naked in the woods? Many folks complain about waste and fail to take a closer look at what all they choose to consume, claiming none of their preferred shit stinks, it's a necessity!
@phillipstroll73852 жыл бұрын
If you aren't going to mention companies with bad shipping what good is the video. How are they to improve if the public doesn't shame them into it. Waste of time
@ltwig4767 ай бұрын
Large distributors such as B, will obviously have more problems in packaging. More advanced artist purchasing only top tier paints will appreciate this video. Most artist don't like having to take time to complain to companies. They will throw the shit away and keep painting. What is great about expensive "small batch" is they don't sell old paint that has been sitting around for 2 years. I bought a can of Titanium on sale from B and it was so old that I only used about 1/3 and threw the rest away. That is not the only old paint that I got on sale from them. If you complain, they will replace it. You don't have to return it. Except artist like myself painting 60-80 hrs per week don't like wasting time dealing with BS.
