Is it common to have your hemoglobin keep dropping with MPA. My son has had 5 blood transfusions. Just started on his infusions a week ago.

Sometimes low hemoglobin in vasculitis is associated with kidney injury. Your kidneys produce a hormone called erythropoietin. Erythropoietin signals your bone marrow (the spongy tissue inside most of your bones) to make red blood cells. If less erythropoietin is being produced because of damage to the kidneys less red blood cells are being produced by your bone marrow. There could be reasons, other than kidney involvement, that could cause low hemoglobin with vasculitis, but that is the most common cause in MPA and other types of ANCA-associated vasculitides.
