I have only been collecting for a year now but I love learning about the different types, makers, patterns etc. I mostly collect the standard green block optic pattern but I am looking to get into the vaseline game! Gorgeous, gorgeous collection. I'm very proud to say I have almost a full dining set of block optic including the salt and pepper shakers with lids. Just need the juice glasses and I'll have everything which is so exciting.

This is really cool! Great info. Also, I bet your house glows otherworldly. Amazing!

I like to imagine that the reason so much of the glass, once available in great quantities, is now hard to find is because the families of those who originally bought it love it, too!

Thanks for the great presentation on this fascinating topic of Uranium glasses. Just purchased a nice Venetian Murano bright red, yellow & green (under natural light) goose & found that it fluoresces very bright green throughout the piece under UV light. To confirm that it contains Uranium I checked it with one of my geiger counters & it registers around 1.4uSv/h (normal background here is around 0.16uSv/h), so I recommend a suitable geiger counter to anyone that deals with collectibles/antiques but especially these glasses/ceramics. I've come across fluorescing glass jewellery that does not contain Uranium as it gave no reading above back ground, so there must be other compounds that can be added to modern glass that is not radioactive.

I for some reason googled what all glows under blacklight, part of that list was Vaseline glass. I know what Uranium glass is but have never heard of Vaseline glass, so I was curious about it. I needed to feed my brain lol. Thank you for sharing this, it was very informative!

I have 4 of the vaseline scalloped hobnail cake plates and I just love their glow. Would they be worth anything? Your collection is stunning!

Great to know they are safe. I have vaseline star marble gum holder that glows too much yellowish green when exposed to UV light. It probably contains 2% or more uranium.

Did you know that many collectors in the US and Europe DO NOT call all uranium (green and yellow) glowing glass Vaseline? The term is actually slang, and was put into use sometime around the 1950's? For me, I agree that the term "Vaseline" encompasses far too many different kinds of glowing glass and is not specific enough to communicate what you collect. You have a nice collection, thank you for sharing.
