Vashlovani Nature Reserve - overnight in Mijniskure

We wanted to enter the Vashlovani Nature Reserve earlier but the rain prevented this. Nino at the Visitor’s Centre contacted us that the weather had turned good and that an overnight trip (sleeping in one of the shelters in Mijniskure) was possible. We jumped at the opportunity. We could park the truck opposite the Visitor’s Centre where Iraki, our driver, picked us up with his Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 mini-van. After a brief stop at the border police to get the permit we headed off. We loved the trip and now fully understand why big rigs are not allowed in the Reserve (and the track to Mijniskure in particular - it would be a nightmare). The shelters at Mijniskure are basic but nice and have a functioning bathroom which is nice. The river runs at the back of the shelters and there are also some camp-spots with fire pits and water. There are no other facilities at Mijniskure, so you need to bring your own food/drink etc. The next morning we made a nice hike along the river/border with Azerbaijan. A friendly dog decided to join us for the walk (this often happens as they know there often is some food for them at stops). After a quick shower and lunch, we headed back using a different track after reaching the viewpoint. As Iraki showed us some of the sights, we already decided that we would come back with the truck (just outside the Reserve). We used all our cameras to create an impression of this two-day trip.
