The Balkans! 🇦🇱 🇧🇦 🇧🇬 🇭🇷 🇬🇷 🇲🇪 🇲🇰 🇷🇴 🇷🇸 🇸🇮 🇹🇷 | Today's special episode is the most beautiful, but most complicated, peninsula of Europe! ~
The message is quite simple; 🕊️ peace! The Balkans is considered Europe's powder keg ready to explode any minute now. We ought to abolish this title and work towards a better future. Work towards peace. Through this video, I hope I am showing you that each and everyone mentioned is so similar with one another and fighting (verbally or worse) brings nothing in the end. We eat the same things, we have the same mentality, we have the same instruments, we have similar dances and rhythms and the list goes on. ☮️ We are powerful all united and not divided. ☮️🌹

SOME INFO:
* Kosovo is a partially recognised republic. It declared independence from Serbia in 2008, and has since gained diplomatic recognition by 97 member states of the United Nations.
The map chosen is defined by the Soča-Vipava-Krka-Sava-Danube border suggestion. Entirely in the peninsula are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro and North Macedonia. Mostly in the peninsula are Croatia (southern mainland), Greece (Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, Epirus, Central Greece, Peloponnese), Italy (Trieste and Monfalcone), Romania (Dobruja), Serbia (Central Serbia), Slovenia (southwestern part) and Turkey (Eastern Thrace). Italy is not considered a Balkan state. Slovenia is also not considered a Balkan state by ethnologists, due to it being part of the Austro-Hungarian empire thus having Central European mentality and culture. Greece is a Western country with a Mediterranean culture. Even so, its mainland is considered Balkan by ethnologists, for having similar traditions and mentality, but its islands are entirely in the Mediterranean sphere.
😎 🇦🇱 🇧🇦 🇧🇬 🇭🇷 🇬🇷 🇲🇪 🇲🇰 🇷🇴 🇷🇸 🇸🇮 🇹🇷
Thank you for watching!! Did you enjoy the dances? Did I add your favorite ones? See you in the next episode! Stay safe and stay tuned!

Oh yes, so stunningly amazing & beautiful Sir! You have an interesting name there. I'm guessing you're from Sri Lanka. I used to work with a Sri Lankan lady with your surname , but i also knew an Indian lady with this surname too. I guess it makes sense, when you think of the history of both Sri Lanka & India & the close geographical logistics. Peace & take care.

It just crossed my mind almost the same thing. There is not too much hope for normality in the western world. Their roots are gone, their traditions have vanished, their love for the land they were born in, their faith is dust in the wind, their ancestors forgotten. But there is hope in the Balkans if we don t get too westernized. We should be so proud for the way we are, and not made to feel like the "poor neighbour" everywhere we go.

I wish I will live long enough to see Balkan United and respectful towards each other. We are so cute while supporting each other! No one needs war, it doesn’t do any good, who wants their fathers, brothers or family killed ? No one, it does hurt the same for everyone. The day we will meet our creator, will matter who we are as individuals not as a country so leave borders behind we are citizens of the same world! We are 1, the human race ❤️ Love and Peace!

Yes sister, I feel the same way. But how can we move forward when North Macedonians try to hijack Greek and Bulgarian history. They are taught to hate Bulgarians, and they are ethnic Bulgarians, they are taught to be Macedonians and hate Greeks, and only Greeks are true Macedonians. With a mentality like that what hope do we have for peace and unity.

So I know this is a weird place to get emotional, but hear me out: I live in the US and here no one really talks about the Balkans (or most of Eastern Europe) so I didn't know anything about these countries and their cultures for a long time. At the same time, I'm Ashkenazi Jewish, so the traditional music from my heritage sounds similar to that of the Balkans. I had always just assumed that not many people knew the style of music and that it was dying out. I'm so happy I was wrong. It's amazing to listen to songs that I previously thought where an isolated phenomena, and realize that there's an entire region that gets it. It's been equally cool to hear music from the other side of the world and feel almost at home and familiar. I've been trying to lean more about the Balkans recently. It's awesome and y'all have the coolest culture! Anyway, that's it. Have a nice day :)

That's Great Hannah! My family is from Macedonia and I married an Ashkenazi Jewish woman. Our families always loved and got along well with each other as there were so many shared values and cultural elements. Klezmer sounds VERY much like Macedonian dance music! Our people even look physically alike -- people often puzzled over whether I was born Jewish or my wife was Greek or Macedonian. And Vailis, if you read this, Thank you SO much for this treat!

Funny thing tho, as soon as many left Romania they suddenly started to listen to their native music! Me, I listen to everything cause I’m music addict ❤️❤️❤️ no music no life

@NikeBG 2 жыл бұрын
It's quite great, Hannah, that you've found a kindred cultural spirit at the other side of the world, namely in the Balkans. I know that feeling as well, as I myself feel strangely fascinated and "at home" with the traditional music of several other regions of the world I have little or no connection with. Though, of course, Klezmer and Balkan music do indeed share many similarities. In that respect, I would highly recommend watching one Balkan documentary (if you can find it), called "Whose song is this?" ("Чия е тази песен?" in the original). It was made by a Bulgarian woman, Adela Peeva, and it starts almost like a joke - a Bulgarian, a Serbian, a Macedonian, a Greek and a Turk are gathered in a pub in Istanbul. Anyway, the movie is about a song (a melody, actually) that exists in all Balkan countries and, naturally, most people here believe it's purely their own song. So the author sets out on a journey across the region, showing the different songs based on that common melody. Unfortunately, something that could serve to unite us, instead tends to divide us and Peeva demonstrated that with some rather provocative segments during her final demonstrations in Bulgaria and Serbia (i.e. where she and her husband are from, respectively). In any case, what I find interesting about that melody and which I am very sad that Peeva didn't really explore further, is that it's a melody stretching far beyond the Balkans - from Spain all the way to India. And from what I've seen, its origin actually seems to be from the al-Andalus, from the Sepharadic Jews, and from there it seems to have spread east, influencing an Italian Renaissance composer, Boney M's hit "Rasputin" and possibly even the national anthem of Israel. It's quite fascinating! Greetings from Bulgaria!

I love this dance collage of Balkan countries. I am Bulgarian 🇧🇬 with Turkish and Greek roots in my family. Greetings from Turkey 🇹🇷 Great work! As a child I spent all my summers near the town of Tekirdag, in the European part of Turkey (Eastern Thrace). I remember the beautiful sea, the endless sunflower fields, and our parents drinking raki (Turkish version of ouzo) at dinner almost every night. There was really something special in the air. I remember going to the “Bulgarian market” in Tekirdag and buying a bootleg Bulgarian print Led Zeppelin record. Every now and then we would hear stories from someone who had either traveled to a Balkan country, or had family there, or something else. Years later I had a chance to visit Athens, Greece but haven’t been able to explore anywhere else, as I’ve been living in far away countries since my twenties. My maternal grandfather’s parents were from Kircali in Bulgaria and Xanthi in Greece; exploring those parts one day is on my bucket list.

Oh you just sent me back to my childhood as well with that word "raki" im albanian but as you probably should know we have loads of similarities together, the cultur, the food, the religion and many words we still have in our vocabulary that we use. The smell of raki is amazing and I rember that year's time when everyone in the neighbourhood would be boiling/preparing the raki all together helping out each-other during the process. I don't live in Albania now and haven't been there since 2017 but inşallah if i get residency from the country where im living at the moment the first destination after visiting my precious home will be definitely Istanbul and Cappadocia. I also have to mention that we do have similarities with Greece too because Albanians have been emigrating in there for soooooo many many years.

Raki is relevant to ouzo as much as to arabic arak, italian sabuca and French pastris, in terms of all of them being destilled and anised. But, there is an enormous difference: raki is traditional, and kinda the most consumed alcohol in Turkey. Ouzo is not traditional (a specific person from thessaly founded it in middle 19th century) and it's popular among tourists. The most consumed drink in Greece is wine, like in all of Southern Europe Greece, especially if we move away from Northern Greece, is far less Balkan and more southern European than someone would expect

@@giannisb2721 Ouzo is traditional in certain regions. It doesnt have to be the most consumed or to be invented there to be part of the local tradition.
