For some even faster 2 stroke action get you hands on an old Kawasaki Triple H2 The Widow maker My buddy has a drag one and it does 8sec in the 1/4. FBG motor. I agree you did a Helluva nice job on the old bike young man. Keep digging you're going places.

CORRECTION!!!! In 1970, it was still called the R5 350, NOT the RD 350! The RD came out in 1973, and was built until 1976, when the RD 400 came out......

Damn, kid. That's an epic build. You made a 1970's 2 stroke 500% safer than it was stock. And yet it's still dangerous. Mad respect.

I had an RD350 in the early 70's. It was both exhilarating and terrifying, and it nearly killed me on more than one occasion. It's hard to impress on someone how much performance it had. You can really enjoy that bike, but treat it with respect. Love your builds and keep up the good work!!!

Back then I was seventeen and the prospect of all that speed on tap was very very attractive, but I hated the smell of two-stroke (still do) ...probably just as well, as I am alive to watch this video, and fit enough to ride a push-bike up steep hills.

Mine was a brand new RD350b as well, "blue", can always rember the headlight used to shake side to side when loading it up at powerband. The footpeg brackets were half worn threw by the time I sold it. Great memories except for the few broken bones.

I did a full restore on a 1975 RD-350B about a 15 years ago. It took me a couple of years to finish it. The one missing piece was the seat. I had a contact at the local Yamaha dealership who bored my cylinders and he was able to order a stock seat from the factory. There were only 2 left and I got one of them. When it arrived, the box was covered in dust and even after opening the box, I couldn't believe the amount of dust inside too. That's what happens after 30 years in the factory, I guess? When it was finished, the bike was amazing. I got pulled over by a group of Hell's Angels riding through a canyon on the way to the beach. I thought these guys were going to kick my ass. The lead guy go toff of his hog an walked over to me and said "Wow!, check this out. My first bike was one of these." Showing his other buddies. Then he congratulated me on the restore and they took off. Whew!

the most arm wrenching bike I ever owned, mine had skimmed head, carbs from a Suzuki GT380 +K&N's, empty microns, high compression pistons, balanced and lightened crank, race CD kit, lightened flywheel, it was converted to mono shock with an alloy RD250LC swing arm, Norton Manx tank, everything that didn't make it go or stop was removed, it was like lightening, I lived many didn't, the "widow maker" it got nicknamed here in the UK,

This is a Yamaha R5 piston-ported engine, not a RD350 as some might think. The RDs came later. But he changed the crankshaft, used RD (Banshee) pistons and cylinders with reed-valves and technically, changed it to an RD engine ! Great job ! While I am not a subscriber to the styling...........man that ride in the end brought goosebumps ! Thankfully, no deer ran across the road ! As a 67-year-old, I still long for the two-stroke era. We used to eat the Honda guys RAW !! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

Very nice resto, it looks stunning, and yeah they're definitely not for beginners! A friend of mine bought the Yamaha RD350 YPVS back in 1984 - it was a maniac machine, that ended up killing him. I rode it a couple of times and I told him it would end up killing him, but unfortunately he didn't listen, and it did exactly that.

They were quick alright. I remember riding a friends RD350 for the first time in the very early 1970's and scarring the life out of myself. The bike I rode at that time was a Yamaha RT1B trail bike, and the RD350 was a whole new ball game. I found myself carrying far too much speed into corners and then really struggling to get around them. I quickly learned to treat that bike much differently to my RT1B in corners or i wasn't going to live much longer

Vas, I'm a scrapper, and a while back I salvaged a Yamaha 2 stroke outboard boat motor. It was a V4! I can't quite remember, but I think it had 4 carbs. It was a huge engine by bike standards, had to be 2 liters. It was big. I'm guessing the thing made at least 150 hp. I kept thinking, "this would RIP in a quad, a buggy, or a custom bike". It was full of salt water, way beyond repair, so I scrapped it. But I would have loved to hear it run!

Nice job, man! 2 strokes never die! Just a tip for your alloy welding : don't cut the parts with the grinder, use a saw. Those discs pollute the weldingby leaving particles inside. Tig doesn't like it. You 'll improve drastically your welding. Try that and let me know. For me, that was from middle age to total recall ;). Thanks for your video!
