Well, you see, it all started when Matpat realized that Sans was actually Ness. Matpat gave the Pope a copy of Undertale as a gift, something about thinking he would like how the game puts value on pacifism and stuff. The pope may have specifically requested this song, which would imply that he not just played the copy Matpat gave him, but played the genocide route, given that that's the only route with the funny bone man song. Which would have to mean he *really* enjoyed it for the Pope of all people to actually get to the Snas fight, between the fact that the Pope doesn't seem like the type of Christian who is big on the slaughtering nonbelievers thing that they used to do on a semi-regular basis, and the fact that Undyne exists. Realistically though, all this is a coincidence and the band just copied music they heard and liked, and nobody present actually knew they were playing the bone man murdering music.

The way I generally understand it (folks can correct me if I'm wrong): There's a tradition of giving symbolic gifts to the Pope at some certain time. Often not things he might end up using himself, but it's the thought behind the gesture that counts on a spiritual level. Matpat gave Undertale for the reason missingno miner said pretty much, because it rewarded peace & goodwill, & inspired a lot of soul-searching & creativity in countless people the world over. I'm kinda bummed that ppl gave him crap for it, cuz it really was thoughtful, & fully in the spirit of the tradition, just unexpectedly modern. But haters gonna hate I guess... As for the Megalovania performance: The Pope periodically takes a break during services to let people to showcase their talents for the audience, as a kind of way to appreciate what God's children are capable of (or something like that), like artists will come in & paint, or singers, etc. & this particular time a small circus group came to do tricks & stuff. Most likely, one of their members was in charge of arranging music for the performance, & well... they either are an Undertale fan & figured now would be an awesome chance to slip that in there... or they just heard Megalovania out-of-context somehow (maybe cover versions of it) & thought it was well-paced & catchy enough to be one of the batch of songs they could perform to. Folks, including the Pope, most likely just thought it was a catchy tune & enjoyed it for that aspect. But... who knows for sure, if he or others around him might be in-the-know after all? I kinda doubt, but it's not impossible. Regardless, this was such an epic elevation in Toby Fox's career, that's for sure! Little shy indie game guy, now contributing to major Nintendo titles & his music playing for basically the king of Christianity! That's crazy-amazing! 😆
