Composer Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote Flos Campi in 1925 for solo viola, wordless choir, and orchestra as a reflection on the biblical Songs of Solomon: "Flos Campi" - "Flowers of the Field." Vaughan WIlliams' most exotic score is an unfolding series of six connected movements that is a hybrid viola concerto and choral work accompanied by orchestra.
