This town is sitting still in time as if left abandoned yesterday! Time has stood still here!

I grew up there in Vaughn. I still have a lot of family there. I haven't been there in 3 years. The town has a lot of history from the Harvey House to people that went missing from the Vaughn hotel. Vaughn is the center of where roads Hwy 60, Hwy 54 and Hwy 70 meet. I have fond memories of growing up there in the 70's and 80's.

drove through here by chance on a trip from Salt Lake to Austin TX and I was blown away by what I was seeing as I drove through the main drag - abandoned gas stations, diners, motels with a 50's motif- absolutely mesmerizing. I regret not cruising through the streets like you are. I would love to hear from the long time residents about their town. So many questions- like, I see people putting out their garbage bins; who comes to collect their trash? where does it go? Is trash collecting for 50 houses a part time job or volunteer deal? How does a town like this still operate?

Such a cool town. Some of those buildings would be really cool to photograph. Who knows, in 20 years it might be a complete ghost town which makes it even more interesting. You guys have captured a snapshot in time with this video.

My father-in-law was station master for Santa Fe Railway. My mother-in-law was a former Harvey girl. I have so many wonderful memories there, and there are a lot of nice people. It had a lot of abandoned buildings in the 70’s too. It did look drier than I’ve ever seen it. My in laws kept their land so nice. They had a garden, and another old house on the land. It was my and my husband’s honeymoon cottage. The sound of the trains coming always are pleasant memories to me. I can still see my father-in-law checking the times, even away from the station.

My grand parents lived there in the mid 70s. Across from railroad tracks. The first house you show resembles the house, But it may be a pile of ruble by now. Good footage

Most in the small towns of NM work on ranches. So you won't see factories out there. As a patrol officer, if the one officer on duty in Santa Rosa called in sick, I had to drive from Tucumcari, NM, to handle any call there.

Thanks for showing this small ghost town out west in New Mexico, the brown grass and dusty roads. The tumbleweed was back in Colorado. You are right. It's a slower pace of life. The dry air preserved things.

at 9:50 the building you were looking at used to be a movie house way back in the day. like until the 50s/60s. The building you immediately turned by was a bar and brothel until like the 1920s. There is some art painted inside that was painted by a vagrant who, is now only known as the vagabond artist, would paint murals in order to pay for room and board. there's a lot of history to Vaughn. The People Store was still operational in the 90s when I was a kid. It was like going back in time. It was trippy. I used to go with my grandma where she'd get a pound of bologna deli sliced and I would get an ice cream cone for $0.50. I could go on, but this comment has already gotten to long.

I used to come thru Vaugh, Anthony etc. on 285 when I would drive to visit my folks in Louisiana. .... I lived in ABQ/Santa Fe, NM so I would take I-40 to 285 to pick up I-10.... this route cuts and hour or two off the trip home..... alot of good memories.. nice people in those towns.. I never really focused on "poverty"... alot of folks in NM used to tell me during the Great Depression they didn't know they were poor, they grew food, had animals etc. it took white folks from Washington DC to tell them they were poor, the were at peace, living life, enjoying their family. In NM the folks still have a culture, strong family bonds... While I know in the west "money" is god, its everything... but alot of the he natives and Hispanics I met along the way didn't worship the dollar....

Lot of small towns like this in New Mexico. Like a lot of places in the southwest these were farming and ranching towns until the governor decided to shut them down.

When you say Vaughn, Texas and get corrected and then say close enough... NO, Vaughn is not "close enough" to Texas, its easily 3-1/2 to 4 hours away from Texas.

👍👍 I guessed 1980 but rear window didnt match. I don't think it's abandoned coz it would be dusty and tyres would be flat.

there's places like this out there in the middle of nowhere, if you are a trucker or something it might be ideal i guess something super cheap to park your truck and rest your head, but thats the problem there is nothing there to speak of as far as commerce.

or maybe you are older and on SS, and a some change to buy a cheap place paid off and live cheaply, that kind of thing, it looks rough though, I can see people would escape this town if they didn't have a car, just train hop on out of there on that train.
