This was an excellent interview Vaughn. To hear from the man himself, who introduced so many groundbreaking groups (Depeche, Nitzer Ebb, Yazoo, Erasure) to the world through his record label, along with his pioneering work in The Normal, made my night man. Having Gareth on as well just made it that much better. From a musician and early subscriber, thanks so much for bringing this to us. Much appreciated!

I think I suggested to Warren Huart like someone else here did that he interview Gareth (and John Fryer as well). Thanks for this. Obviously, any interview with Daniel Miller is also of interest to me. I'm new to your channel - do you ever cover Fad Gadget? An interview w/Daniel about Frank is something I would be very interested in. I think DM got a lot from Fad Gadget at a certain point.

Daniel Miller is most definitely a genius. It was obvious in the work he did with silicon teens and fag gadget. Even though Gareth may have been reluctant to work with DM initially, I'm so glad that he did bc the results were amazing 😍❤️❤️ Keep up the great work Vaughn. I love your videos my friend.

Yeah the 80s stuff that Dan and Gareth did together with DM still just holds up as incredible sonic art. Never mind ‘pop music,’ it was sound art. Some may think it sounds dated but i don’t agree, it was startling at the time, and timeless by way of being outside the mainstream, because it was so different and artistic. And in 15 years suddenly a new generation of 20-somethings will ‘discover’ those records and then suddenly they will be heard as being incredibly new and visionary by that generation. Which of course, some of us have known since they were released.

Geek Talk taken up a notch ! (our amps go from 10 to 11). Thank you for the info and the post. I liked what Daniel said about recommending his students use 8 tracks when writing. I typically use anywhere from 8 to 15 tracks myself in my hobby studio ( sans vocal, guitar and time code tracks )

*Ohhhh yeah* !! Vaughn with all the 'goody good' peeps in his circle. p.s. Vaughn if you didn't see my comment on post 'live' video....I am SO seeking out the remixes of first release after all TOO long. I am underwhelmed w/h the Ghosts Again release by the gents {I own that...others feel different and I respect such}. I was left wanting more oomph and ???? else. Anyhoo I am finding heaps of remixes to now *fill the void*. I am not buying album 'til hear rest and to share I 'have' been 'there/here' since late '81 or early '82 {across the pond relatives sent albums often}. I am younger than the lads, but was heavily into music from about age 10 due to age of siblings & 'hip to the groove. parents. Also hellllo the majority of 'said' accompanying video, minus first 1: 34 min/sec mark, and handshake of course....what was THAT in between such?! Exciting said 'rant' now haha.

Hello you, I hope you're well! If you want some "oomph" then do Check out the new "1984" EP by "Vaughty". Don't take my word for, just ask the fans. VG :-)

p.s. Ok I am back --I am even MORE upset--did you see the boys on Sanremo 2023 just today or last night maybe (y'all can easily find on the Googler Schmugler). METALLIC thread fabric MATCHING various garments the lads are sporting incl. their addtl. keyboardist. OMG that jacket Martin has is just BAD. Worse now Dave thinks those horrrrendous boots need to be sported in WHITE or cream!! Ghosts Again was not even made better LIVE ....so that is stressing me. No special effects or OOMPHING!! Rant over. Everyone needs to go get their oomph from remixes now it seems and of course via our Vaughn's new stellar album

Terrific interview, Vaughn! Also, could you kindly ask Mr. Jones about his work on the album "A Bell Is A Cup" by Wire (it was released on Mute in 1988). That LP is the finest example of electronic/rock combination with exquisite pop songwriting, and imo a real standout in Gareth's catalogue. It would be interesting to hear how they managed to achieve such sound.kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIjQc2hoeNyBo9E

I'm not sure I agree that todays easy access to creating music is all that positive. In a way it was already fairly easy when Daniel made The normal, the difference is you just had to want to do it a little more and think a little harder to realize it but it wasn't actually that difficult in practice, even so the limitations made it simpler, easier and faster in some ways but of course in other ways it forced you to become more creative, and that's a very good thing as what you'll end up with is more likely to be of any quality. To limit your brain to focus on what is actually important makes a pretty huge difference to the end result. The audience will treasure it more too if they know it couldn't been done by just anyone from anywhere. Nowadays you really have to wade through a lot of crap to find the nuggets.
