After the reveal that Etho's (not current) headphones were held together with duct tape and his mic stand was a Kleenex both, I'm sadly not surprised that his keyboard is over 20 years old. Edit: also no mouse pad.

Maybe the reason he keeps his privacy is because he couldn't bear the thought of anyone seeing his gaming setup. Like he's sparing us from a video of him booting up his Digital8 Handycam to show off how not only his mic, but also the broken keyboard, AND his likely-broken office chair are balanced on kleenex boxes.

I love the mention of Terraria's data when it comes to compression and code I can assure you, from what I've heard about Terraria's codebase, Red Re-Digit is NEITHER a "readability" or "compression" coder. He is a maniac and I am simply amazed that Terraria functions as well as it does For example: They had to find a workaround for a new paint type (Echo Coating) for 1.4, because the game just couldn't handle a new paint, so instead of being a "paint" Echo Coating is just its own thing that works on top of paint. It is amazing that the game functions like it does and the fact they're still adding more content onto it (final update 1.4.5 trust me bro trust me)

Regarding the jewel storage conversation in the beginning. I liked how rare item data was stored in Diablo 2. They just stored the random generator seed used to generate the item. Something like that could be used for jewels. Seed of the generator used to generate the jewel and then how many times it was cut (where the outcome of every cut is deterministic from the seed).
@guyinacage5 ай бұрын
oooo that's clever!
@Vanele15 ай бұрын
The question is allways is that possible in minecraft
@guyinacage5 ай бұрын
@@Vanele1 Seeded jewels would be reasonable to implement. Information condensed as deterministic seeds is a very well known coding feature. Obviously there's many examples in Minecraft itself. In this specific use case, the only thing non trivial I can see is deciding when to parse the items from their seed into the expanded format. You could do this for all jewel items as soon as they are loaded, but this could be quite laggy. A better solution might be to wait until the player actually interacts with the item, but if this is the case, there might be a delay before the item's stats are made visible to the player. If the player opens an inventory full of jewels, you might want to have all of the jewels parsed in order to display each with the correct texture image. This might require a slight performance hit upon opening chests and other inventories.

With all this talk of pickles and jars, I think it would be neat if there were a bitter pickle vault fruit that spent 15-60 seconds of your vault time, but adds a random (likely) positive modifier or catalyst effect. It could also have a very small chance to curse the vault for trolling purposes.

I really enjoy the behind the scenes for the dev commentary that somehow Etho gets so much of and now we do too! But I didn’t need to know Etho’s keyboard is 20 years old 😅 Iskall, this is not okay. No wonder he can’t parkour or PVP. In the last year we have found out the following: * He lacks computer deskspace for his mouse movements. * He lacks a deskpad and a mousepad * He uses a tissue box to hold up his mic * His keyboard is 20 years old I’ve heard you say plenty of times that you don’t buy yourself stuff but Etho is the biggest pennypincher in the world. Are we sure he is not from the Silent Generation with parents who were from the Greatest Generation? Children of the generation that lived through the Dirty 30s and the Great Depression and now are often hoarders nowadays? I get planned obsolesce is The Worst but this is extreme… The fact that he does all he does despite the above is amazing but… why

@Cantrona5 ай бұрын
To riff off the "Protect the president" idea, to make sure it's fun for everyone, maybe you could have a limited set of tools. Like for a group of 3, there's one sword, one wooden chest breaker and one other chest breaker and you need to swap tools based on the rooms and who has the best builds to tackle those layouts. That way there's more variety and you can change it up throughout the vault

Maybe a tip for protect president game mode. Maybe have the president have to press a block like in the present cake runs for open the next room. But maybe have some extra modifiers for the president like extra xp, soule shard or item rarity to give incentive to the president to loot. Perhaps the opportunity to elect a president but at the expense of something less item rarity, xp, soule shard or more difficult vault. IDK but is probably gonna be a good game mode

Ello Iskall! Wanted to share some ideas for the next Habba! Team Game: There are 10 players so you could make 5 teams of 2, but you should name the teams after the Vault Gods! Team Idona, Tenos, Velara, Wendarr, and the last one Team Hunters! It would be in theme :) Soul Scav Habba: So, instead of who finishes first, the winner is whoever scavs the best. The winner is determined by the total amount of soul value of each scav item and wether or not they finish their own scav. This way players can debate to loot to get more scav items or to move on and find the items they need to complete the vault. The ultimate “greed is good” competition! (However, you might want to say no vault fruit, so everyone is on the same playing field)

7:00 people nowdays mostly program for web so the data manegement is done by frameworks that are already optimised. You can chose readability without a big problem in those cases because PCs today are realy fast. The thing is, when you are making a game like modded MC or soming else that will be resource intensive should be in the mind of the programmer (benchmarking). You don't need to optimise everything, but many games don't care to optmise anything at all and can get laggy real fast.

On the not of compression, "The most amazing achievement of the computer software industry is its continuing cancellation of the steady and staggering gains made by the computer hardware industry. - Henry Petroski" Basically back in the day we compressed because the system would be slow if we didn't, nowadays the systems are so fast we don't see the need to optimize. I hate nowadays, no need to tinker with code for improvements. That's why the moments I run into inefficient problems like dealing with millions of rows of data I'm enjoying myself with optimizing so I don't have to wait minutes but seconds.

With the getting comfortable with cleave build, you could make a vault type that your abilities and perhaps even gear isn't brought into the vault, and instead you start with some very basic gear, then as you progress each room you clear some goal for you get a choice out of some random gear or abilities to pick. Similar to those bullet hell roguelikes. As someone that also enjoys just some fun pve I think it'd be a fun addition. Not something you could just randomly get dumped into, I don't think it'd be something fun to run into without knowing. I'm not always a big fan of having the time limit of vaults, so it would be nice to have something like that where it doesn't have a time limit, but instead is just get as far as you can until you decide to leave or end up dying.
