Vulkan is such a cool guy. You'd never hear of any other Primarch feeling bad for killing a Xenos child. Even if they were an innocent. That level of compassion puts him in my top three Loyalist Primarch favorites. Right next to Sanguinius and Roboute Guilliman.

I'm a fan of the "ideal hero" archetype. Sanguinius representing Idealism and Hope for the Future, Vulkan representing Compassion and Restraint, and Roboute Guilliman representing Wisdom and Understanding. Each representing qualities I believe a true hero should have.

My favorite (of the loyal primarchs) as in caring and understanding are Sanguinius, Jaghatai Khan and Vulkan; but in badassery i would say Lion El'Johnson, Corvus Corax, and well it's a dispute between Sanguinius and Jaghatai because both fought greater demons in epic battles.

Salamanders are my favourite chapter... They actually care about the people they protect, not their own pride and glory in fighting enemies. I remember the Helsreach novel where a squad of Salamanders appeared to help the Black Templars defend the civilian bunkers from Ork raids and, with their help, they pushed the Orks back. Each time the Orks were driven away, the Templars would push further with their "crusader" mind-set, but the Salamanders would go no further and return to ensure the civilians were safe. The Templars were overwhelmed and pushed back to the Salamanders. This happened many times for two days. Afterwards a Templar was talking to his Chaplain (Grimaldus), complaining that Astartes should be a spear driving through the enemy, not acting like shepherds for weak people. The Chaplain replied the Salamanders simply have a different culture and exist to serve and protect people, but we are crusaders, caring little for that over bringing death and fury to our enemies. I love the Sals since reading that.

Hmm I think the wolves of fenris are slightly different in their mind-set though. They are first and foremost the emperor's executioners , they are what they are required to be cold-hearted murderers or noble heros. So although they understood that it was unjust the reason they fought against the inquisition was more to do with the fact that it was what they believed was right, not in the moral sense but rather the practical way

I just now realized Vulkan is the WH40k equivalent of John Henry. A big black man with a big hammer and an even bigger heart. Also the fact he may be one the most physically intimidating Primarch and usually associated with a raging inferno, yet his personality is very compassionate and humanitarian to a fault. All of that just makes me love Vulkan more than I already. He's the best Primarch IMHO.

After Corax...Vulkan is my favourite Primarch...here is some reasons why: 1. Fought like a true Primarch and hero in the Istvaan V Massacre, even though he lost most of his legion. 2. He was supposed to give a warhammer to Horus when he became Warmaster but he sensed a "darkness" in Horus and so deliberately chose not to give it to him. 3. He values empathy and doesn't need words to prove his might. 4. He is the only loyal Primarch who is highly likely to return due to being "immortal". Oh also you missed out a fact...the name Vulkan means "God of Fire"

The Emperor didn't die from his injuries. His followers are keeping him "alive" enough to power the Astronomican. Perpetuals are not common knowledge. It may be theorized that if the Emp were allowed to die he would be reborn fully healed but who believes that :) ? In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future, there is only War.

Wait, so if vulcan has one of the powers of the emperor (immortality) and literally can never die, as you mentioned why is the emperor quote on quote "dead". Why hasn't the emperor regenerated like vulkan has? If he can have his head cut off and regenerate it back, shouldn't the emperor come be able to come back. No matter the injury?

His body and soul, from whence his immortality comes was badly damaged in the fight with Horus. He is stuck in limbo, the golden throne is preserving a thread of his soul, but unable to regenerate further.

I'd say. The Lion, because Angron is a butcher, not a warrior, he can take out hordes with ease, but a duel between equals is not his strong suit. Russ, he's the best at melee combat of the primarchs. Not sure about Kurze vs Route. But i'd says Kurze, because he'd probably do something sneaky.... also, he knows when he's going to die, and it's not fighting Robute.... And Magnus vs Vulkan. If Vulkan's still perpetual, then Vulkan, it's just impossible to kill him. Without the Perpetual, i'd say magnus, since he could use his psychic powers to throw him into the warp or some other stuff.

Didnt Angron start out as a Gladiator/Slave? I would expect Gladiators to be excellent in 1vs1. If so it would basically be Primarch Knight vs Primarch Gladiator, it might just be possible the reckless abandon and brute force Angron would show would be able to break through the martial prowess and precision of the Lion. Someone going all out, abandoning all defence and using hilariously huge weapons, while actually being really good at it, isnt exactly what many fighters train to take on. Thinking the same about Kurze vs Robot and Corax vs Russ. On the Magnus vs Vulcan thing: does it really matter if one of the two dies? i would still call it a win if magnus put vulcan in the warp without any means to come back. the battle is over after all and the one still there is magnus.

Leeroy Johnson But with Angron, he was such a good gladiator because he was a primarch, he could get stabbed in the heart, and not give a fuck. He could be great at combat, but almost any primarch could beat him in a one-on-one fight. He's too reckless, he'd leave himself open, and they'd be able to kill him. Against hordes, that's where Angron slaughters. He's a butcher, not a warrior.

Get The Hunt for Vulkan from The Beast Arises, get it now, it features Vulkan fighting an entire ork army, he is a true primarch, no, not that, even more, like Saitama of One Punch Man, the guy annihilates a battlefortress with one swipe, another swipe and an entire ork squad of nobz gets annihilated. In the ork side there is this scene with a battlebarge firing a super-nova cannon, it annihilates most of an ork fleet, then the orks immediately send another fleet the same size and start grinding the imperial navy to dust. 40k at its finest.

there is one thing that has always confused me that I was wondering if someone could answer if they know what it is: originally all the Primarchs were more or less identical when in their stasis tanks right (before they were separated that is)? 20 identical biologically engineered super humans...so was Vulkan always black or was that something caused by his upbringing on a fiery volcanic world, like did his skin darken or something...or did something else happen...I mean Magnus got turned red...and Corax had a DNA defect that made him very white...so is there a reason Vulkan was black or was he always black even in the stasis tank?

I think Vulkan's skin tone and eye color was a result of the ultra violent radiation of Prometheus' sun - where like him the humans of that planet also sported the same ash black skin and fiery red eyes as a means to adapt to their environment. That and while the Primarchs were clones of the Emperor, I don't think they were pure copies of him - to me they come across as fragments of the Emperor's genes, like the Homonculi from FMA. Each one being a physical embodiment of one of the Emperor's character quirks or emotions. Not sure what caused Magnus' skin tone. My best guess is Warp-based corruption - like the mutations that caused Corax's eyes to be pitch black, and Sanguinius to develop wings.

well we know what caused Magnus' issue, he passed through some sort of anomaly in space before crashing on Prospero, he originally DID look normal like his other brothers...its just the psychic defects that were passed onto his legion. Magnus wasn't meant to be a towering red skinned giant though...as far as we know the only true thing about him is that he WAS red haired and was gifted with psychic powers. Corax's white skin and dark hair n eyes was a gene defect, not caused by anythnig when he went through space...as it effected his entire legion. there is a difference between a GENE defect and alterations caused to the Primarch themself by the world thye landed on. Sanguinius grew angel wings due to mutation but no one is entirely sure how. Alpharius' embryo split in two and that was something no one predicted...not even the Emperor. Mortarion was severely deformed and damaged physically by the toxins of Barbarus....these are all examples of what i mean...not gene defects but defects caused by their travel in space and the planet they landed on.

Dude your recounting of this history is fucking awesome. Sometimes it literally brings a tear to my eye thinking about the honourable deeds by the good Primarchs :) *edit - The last section about him returning 1500 years after the heresy. Is this the only known source of a Primarch being present after the main heresy period? (aside from the chaos demon Primarchs in the warp)

The endtimes story line streamlines allot of varied units into a few basic types, it also gets rid of allot of fan favorite races. At least that is what I remember I never played fantasty
