In this week video we have a 2011 Opel Vauxhall Astra J estate tie rod end replacement, due to the tie rod end boot being damaged allowing moisture and debris into the ball joint which is a MOT vehicle inspection failure...
Super easy job when you don't have rust to deal with which was the case this time 😊....
I may have one more video next week from this Vauxhall Astra so please stay tuned...
Take Care 👍👍👍👍
Hey everybody, Igor here from Cars Exposed thanks for tuning in.
I will be uploading videos here every week Thursday at 18:30 sharing my experiences working around cars on my driveway, exposing issues, auto repair, auto electric, oil changes, services, projects and more...
Cheers 👍

I only count threads if they are the same length as the replacement. I found many times that either aftermarket or OE have changed their design and many times a different length. So I barely break the "lock" nut loose, then measure the back center of tie rod (where the articulating ball is) up to lock nut (the end of threaded portion). If they measure the same I may count rotations... but barely moving the locking nut back, should also have the tie rod of the same length in back in the same position.

My preferred tool for breaking loose that lock nut is also a "monkey" wrench... plumbers wrench. Those wrenches can be a LIFE SAVER... they do a better job of gripping than vise grips, when there's enough to bite! 😉😉 thanks for sharing Igor!

Hello there Igor!!! That was an easy replacement. Like you say, sometimes these can be a day long job to get loose. The old tie rod end was pretty well toast. It sure was time for a change!!! Thanks for posting. Take 'er easy!!!

That wouldn't fail mot over here, only if there's wear or the grease can getting onto the disk. A hammer with a longer handle will break the taper easier

dave sterl Cheers mate, I’m quite sure it fails here but now I’m scratching my head thinking maybe it could be an advisory 😬😊... I need to get a bigger hammer 👍👍👍👍

Top tip on this one mate. Use the correct size spanner 22mm on the locking tie bar nut not a plumbers wrench and a ball joint splitter on the track rod end but. Its looks far more professional and works far better than than a bolster hammer. Looks far more professional
