A while ago I mentioned the problem I had with the car I used to own, a fiat 500/. Ford Ka version. That would cut out the engine at 70 miles per hour and only show generic misfire code for 2 cylinders.. it took six months to fully repair, after 3 dealerships involved. ECU went off for testing and came back entirely broken, although they had said it was working perfectly... Eventually the ECU testers were threatened with court action, they both refunded their fee and pay the fee towards a new ECU, the new ECU actually solved the issue, most other things were replaced trying to win the parts bingo.. such as cam tone wheels, of course the oxygen sensors, plugs coils wires.. ended up costing £1,000 in parts, labour was way more, solicitors fees, this car was under warranty when I bought it used, most of this happened after I had rejected the car, has it been in for repair 3-months at the time and I gave up, other things on that car made me think that the ECU was at fault.. the stop-start was entirely random, didn't apply the rules that was set out in the handbook for activation, and almost everytime activated would restart after about 5 seconds.. annoyingly it didn't remember it last setting so it was default to on.... I've only just found out how the story ended so I thought I'd share

Hey man. Great tutorial up to the point where you said you would clean the contacts of the ECU! You never showed it and went straight to the live data which was 1 ohm lower! Was there a lot of corrosion on the pins or what? You probably don't remember as you work on a lot of cars. Obviously it was the ABS module you cleaned and not the ECU. I love your vids but this one was a bit (WTF did I miss/rewind and watch again to see if I missed something) Do you remember how bad they where?
@LMAutoRepairs3 жыл бұрын
Hi Not bad, but bad enough to cause a problem... And not the ABS, the Airbag ecu... The connections start to get surface oxidation, and starts to cause resistance on the circuit... the Airbag system is quite sensitive to that, and in this case, started to cause errors... Sometimes, it is just a matter of remove the plug and put it back in... the drag of the connections clean the surface and make a good contact again... but obviously while you are there, just proper clean it... Hope that helps... Thank you for watching and for your comment! 👍👍👍
