The latest thing I saw the other days you can buy a self. Propelled Water driven system for your home. You just drop it in a little river and it just spirals all the time and send power solar batteries. Hopefully this is the kind of direction we start heading in. Nice! How well would this design compress air? High pressure low volume or low pressure high looks very promising! I habe done some extensive study om hydro turbine sustems and found their overall efficiencies swing from 16% down to less then 5%! Lots of room for improbement with compressed air injected into water then captured at the bottom in a hydro conveyor. Lots of accelerated mass losses avoided. Now you can store wind energy in the form of compressed air for use on no wind days! Keep up the good work!

That's kind of funky. Although I get what you're doing in terms of combining effective surface area. How does one deal with balance issues relating to the connecting rods? (Once it gets going, that force isn't going to be insignificant.) Seems like it'd have been easier to use a bike chain, as you'd not have all that mass going back and forth, and you'd just have to deal with a tensioner system instead.

I would have to also add it may also be a more rational use of material and volume as well, since you have the law of cubes for wind power as well as materials and required strength, and the forces in any given direction would be harder to spread out on the top/side of the building when there is strong torque from winds.

Even a well-lubed chain will have far more friction losses. Just try turning the rear wheel of a big bike. Plus, you would need rollers to direct the chain over all the sprockets (or have every other turbine counter-rotating).
@davemwangi055 жыл бұрын
@@PeterHendricks59 Yeah, tell these guys, I don't know what they're complaining about, they should embrace the design. From what I gather, a four bar linkage can achieve 99% efficiency. but a chain / V-belt system etc will have losses and will achieve only 93%.

While visually impressive the meeting edges of the cylindrical turbines are travelling in opposite directions to each other. Careful testing, with different cylinder spacings, may pay dividends in increased power output through a reduction in mutual air resistance. As shown, they are effectively acting as constant air brakes on each other.
@strictnonconformist73693 жыл бұрын
I noticed and was surprised to see that once I saw the video instead of the paused thumbnail. On the other hand, in high winds, that may work as a potentially useful automatic overspeed airbrake, assuming the support structure can take all the bending torques from that wind.

This is interesting, so I looked up VAWT Vertical Axis Wind turbine, advantages is omni directional, and on a large wind farm can deliver 10 x the power per acre. (Wikipedia) Anyone worried about friction losses, its not a big loss. Chains and gearing require more greasing and maintenance. This can use long life sealed bearings. Reliability is more important than efficiency. Crank shafts are in most cars, they aren't too bad. The real test will be when the wind hits 30 knots +
@DanielSuhYW4 жыл бұрын
Did you compare losses between two options? Which is more efficient? Is there any loss when every turbine do not receive same amount of wind. Option 1: Each turbine generates electricity and Connect batteries in series. Option2: Connecting wind turbines in series and generate electricity in a single turbine. Thank you in advance.
@christophvonwaldhuf Жыл бұрын
it’s definitely less efficient because there is friction in each bearing plus more maintenance because bearings exposed to the elements if wind blows directly from the side the outside one blocks wind for the others there are more problems to like high mass of that rotating beam, slow rotation speed of generator shaft (more inefficient)

This bird is very friendly! I would imagine this style of turbine would be far less likely to kill a bird than a typical large-diameter horizontal turbine because everything is close together and easy to see. Large horizontal turbines have narrow blades spaced far apart, so a bird might try to fly through the gaps between them.
@AlehandrosArhangelos4 жыл бұрын
Those huge metal bars in the bottom are totally a bad thing, all that weight and it is not always even, one side has more weight where the bar is, a gear mechanism would have been much better for transmission

Would like to see the output data. This rigging seems to waste energy. Possibly each turbine could produce more effectively if linked directly to individual generators. I do favor vertical turbines over “airplane propeller” wind turbines. I’m still searching for comparative efficiency data.

With all the turbines spinning the same direction, you lose quite a bit of potential where the blade tips are near each other. Alternating the direction of rotation would pick up some efficiency w/o changing anything else.
@nailsonbarroso5 жыл бұрын
Hello Christian, I will try to explain very briefly. The efficiency of these turbines is only 1/4 of the blades, the other 3/4 do not capture kinetic energy from the winds. I did several tests for months (24). The subject is much more complex to explain in a very brief text.
@ChristnThms5 жыл бұрын
@@nailsonbarroso I understand aerodynamics just fine. The point where the blades from each fan pass closest to each other imparts sheer forces on each other. Basically, because the blades are moving at nearlynequal speeds in opposite directions, you create an area of much higher air friction there. So, of whatever amount of energy captured from the wind stream, you lose more of it to friction this way. By reversing every other turbine, those points where they pass close to each other are moving in the same direction, so no wind sheer created. Of course, this makes the linkage an issue. A chain drive might be necessary to facilitate the direction changes.
@nailsonbarroso5 жыл бұрын
@@ChristnThms The mechanical power loss using any other mechanism whether it is chain, belt or cogged gears is much larger than that of this friction area supports you mentioned. Remember that the higher the energy production the smaller the rotation of the turbines.
