The time the Sega Genesis beat the mighty Neo Geo. Truth is the NG version is 100% arcade accurate, while the Genesis got a nice re-skin and improvements. For me is one of the best looking and sounding games ever on the less mighty, but still mighty Genesis.

The Mega Drive version's sound driver is doing some pretty heavy PCM work, it's rather impressive.

Megadrive version is above arcade even. Atonic runner is a 86-87 release I think. The guy that did the port for Neo Geo probably tied to be accurate to the arcade and nothing else.

The MD version only really starts to look better than the original at 5:05 when the parallax layers are introduced. Before that, the original arcade and it's higher colour bit depth and more frames of animation give it the edge. Although there is more horizontal resolution on the MD version. The colours are less good I think.

I think the MD version has better 3D sprite shading and contrast too. Although that was more a style thing. Many arcade games of that era look "Flat" with low contrast and high brightness, including Shinobi, Dragon Ninja, SF1. Games a year later started having better shading and more contrast. Like Altered Beast and Final Fight. Although Double Dragon from 1987 had good shading.

To be honest I was distracted for the most part. The animation for the Neo Geo CD's joystick came out well.

One of my favourite mega drive game it’s Data East did great job for this home port is so much better than the arcade version

É histórico isso. O arcade original é de 86 ou 87. A versão do Mega vai além. Essa versão do Neo Geo o cara portou do arcade e não fez mais nada.

The most impressive part of the Genesis remake is the early restraint that makes 5:04 on, that much more impressive. How many games are this confident or this disciplined? It's great to see this game's arcade original get ported, as it's another game for the platform, but also because every single time it's also a reminder that superior technology often bows to superior art direction. And that's a lesson with worth revisiting, especially now that tech bros and their AI are waging war on genuine human talent and creativity.

Megadrive version looks way better, I always played this one, and I am more than disappointed to see what they have done with the Neogeo one, it would have been way better !

Why sega look better than Veo GeoCD??? Better music on sega, sega has parallax layers. Neo Geo worst colors, worst music, no parallax, poor colors.

That's just what the original arcade version looked like. This one of the few times where a console port was superior to the original arcade version.

You don’t even know the reasons why this was worked on I guess you must have done some really impressive work on the Neo Geo yourself We Neo Geo Cd owners are really happy with this… a really solid arcade game that BITD only got ported to a system roughly as powerful as the Neo Geo… that’s the Sharp X68000 Oh, but since you mustn’t play on real consoles, that means nothing to you since you can play it on MAME… on a Snes Mini… Good for you
