I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has a bit of difficulty reading Austen! Thank you for this video!

In the Miss Bingley-Mrs.Bennet argument, could you substitute Miss Bingley with Lady Catherine? Im specifically talking about when she visits Lizzie and tells her that her family would not even speak of her if she marries Darcy. She goes on about how it would be impractical for Darcy to marry someone with no family connections or fortune. I know she has some bias since she ultimately wants Darcy to marry her daughter but I was just wondering if that could be a possible argument?

"Austen presents Pride as a character flaw that was very prevalent during the Victorian era"... Erhm. No, she didn't. For obvious reasons. Apart from that it's a great little video introduction.

You are incorrect & the video author has it right. Both character flaws are "pride" (mr Darcy) and "prejudice" (e Bennett). The novel is about them falling in love despite these flaws.

@@jannelaineeleodinmuo2442 But Austen did not live in nor write about the Victorian era... She died two years before the future Queen Victoria was born. ;-) She lived in the Georgian era. (Apart from that you're quite right, of course. And we could add that Elizabeth Bennet also has a fair share of pride and Mr. Darcy of prejudice.)

@@jannelaineeleodinmuo2442 No the maker of this video was wrong because this book was written about the Regency Era that came after the Georgian era and they are both before the Victorian era. This book was written a long time before the Victorian era it isn't a Victorian novel!
