We cut threw a lag bolt imbedded 2"X12" covered in 2 layers of flashing, shingles and a layer of 1/4" plywood with each of these blades. The reason behind this circular saw blade comparison is because one of the biggest tool companies had me fooled. We put the newest 7-1/4" circular saw blades to the test in a an head to head tool comparison. The three 7-1/4" circular saw blades compared are the Crescent NailSlicer 7-1/4-in 24-Tooth Carbide Framing Circular Saw Blade, the DEWALT Elite 7-1/4-in 24-Tooth Tungsten Carbide-tipped Steel Circular Saw Blade and the DIABLO Tracking Point 7-1/4 in. x 24-Tooth Framing Circular Saw Blade.

It blows my mind how they can basically make a satire showing, bashing another brands product as a large brand themselves and not expect large influences to show that they were just blowing smoke. That HAS to make an impact on their company, and tradesmans view of said companies. For the longest time, if I had to cut something, it was a Diablo blade. Recip, circular, jigsaw, table/miter, and even angle grinders. Diablo all the way baby

Same here. They are not the best blades on the market but I feel they are the best value for the hobbyist and part time wood worker. I was just milling down some oak barnwood and missed a couple of nails because they were not visible and too deep for a magnet to catch and I do. It have a metal detector. I cut through those two nails like a hot knife through butter and there was no visible damage to the blade.

My Dewalt blade kept going to the right just a little bit. I switched to Diablo and it was day and night. The cut was perfectly straight and clean and really felt like butter. I was using a Ridid circular saw on 3/4" plywood with my diy saw guide. At first i thought the saw and guide did not match accurately, but the blade fixed it perfectly.

I use nothing but Diablo blades in my cabinet shop, and though some of them are nearly 20 years old now, they still cut like their namesake! I've discovered the key to blade longevity and efficiency is cleanliness, so I periodically remove any resin buildup using cheap oven cleaner and an old toothbrush, followed by a thorough rinse in warm water.

Great comparison, and shame on Crescent! I've been a long time fan of various Diablo cutting implements and your testing affirms my faith in them. What would be a better real world comparison between the Diablo blades and the Dewalt blades however, because a grade of carbide or tooth design that withstands nail cutting isn't necessarily best for cutting clean wood, would be to cut clean lumber until one of them demonstrated being dull. God knows that would be an incredible amount of cutting, and at the end of the day you can't go wrong with a $10 Diablo blade.

Morning, I sawr this, good comparison here. I think steel changes with heat exposure, so not sure if it's an equal thing. I think that making a pass thru clean wood after the metal imbedded one may have show better results. been doing wood working, demo for about 35 years. I began purchasing Diablo blades back when they came out with the red color at the Home Dept. I love's. Demo cutting to finish trimming they hold up and leave great finish cutting. I'll keep purchasing the Diablo's, Thanks for the Demo!!

Awesome demonstration. Sadly there are many ways in which they could bias their tests. They could have taken new Diablo blades and ground the carbides (all it really takes is one really dull one to stall a saw cutting through something like that), and/or use techniques (such as twisting the saw) to bind the saw and look as if one blade was poorer than another. The first thing I noticed in "their" demonstration you can see the wood chunk immediate with the Diablo blade which is a good indication the sharpness had been removed and/or they plunged hard into the wood. Glad you took the time, energy, and money to make this demonstration. Thank you

Recently purchased a ryobi 3" cut off tool and went to watch some reviews while waiting for it to arrive. Every single youtube review channel says the Dewalt is miles ahead of any other brand, now the one that made me worry was cutting quarter inch rebar and in every review they make it seem like the ryobi is legitimately struggling and it takes several times more time to cut the same rebar. Dewalt was doing it in like 4 seconds and all the other brands were closer to 10 which is a massive difference even though I didn't really intend to cut rebar. Well I decided to actually try it myself after getting the tool and I was extremely confused because this ryobi takes ~4 seconds to cut through quarter inch rebar and it does it very consistently, even with a generic ryobi blade. It almost seems like all these unrelated people are just straight up acting.

Great show, gotta yeet my tree fiddy in here and share with y’all a few after-life uses I’ve upcycled my old díHablõ blades into. Tack welded 2 together, plasma cut into throwing knifes and forge tempered with an oil quench finish, sell them for more than blade replacement cost. Temper, bend and slow cool for making wood carving sets with micarta handles, makes for a unique gift for friends and family. One-off, my 6’ cast iron damper broke, made a quick and easy U-bracket that goes through the hole and bam, fireplace is rocking on with some brand new components! They make good gears and pulleys when tooled properly, rounded with small teeth cutouts-and you’ve got decent plastic or plywood cutting blades. There’s no waste, even the scrap leftovers get turned to rust, iron oxide is then used for making thermite, that’s a whole different topic of conversation, but you get the point. Good metal is good metal. If you’re not using them, you should be, pity to waste your money and time, both are precious, finite commodities.

It would be interesting to have an amp meter connected to the saw's power to see how hard the saw is really working to make those cuts. While interesting to watch this isn't really showing a real world application. I'd like to see how precisely the blades cut some lengths of 3/4 inch plywood free handed without a guide and perhaps some 2x4 and 2x6's while a meter is connected to measure current draw. Measuring current over the time of the cut will provide an indication of how hard the saw is working to make the cut. A thermal photo of the blades and saw motor taken directly after the cuts might show some interesting results also. Just my thoughts.

I'm so glad to see this done fairly. When you're intentionally twerking and ramming a blade into a hard surface you're going to break the carbides and cause it to do worse. And in all of those shows that's what I see these other companies doing when comparing to Diablo, they intentionally twerk and ram the Diablo blade. I wouldn't doubt that they may even pre-dull the carbides prior to testing suck as running a file on the tips before the show🤷‍♂️ I mean think about it. Some of those booths show a Diablo not even being able to make it through the nasty sandwich, yet guys like us do it all the time to make sure our blades are worth what we're spending. At least me as a contractor I test out different blades to see what's the best performing rather than just going off of what I see and here. I buy a bunch of Brands when they first come out with something new and run tests of my own and simply write the blades off as a business expense for testing🤷‍♂️ call it job insurance and efficiency testing🤷‍♂️ why is it Diablo; when they run their Booth can make it through without a hitch but in another company's booth; the same Diablo cannot even make it through🤷‍♂️. It would suggest either pretest tampering, or coaching on how to make the blade perform less favorably from the non Diablo company to the booth operator when testing the Diablos. Win it fair or step off the stage🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. Me personally I know for a fact that Diablo is not only worth the money but have put it through the paces myself. Matter of fact I've run the same Diablo framing blade in my circular saw for 5 years straight before replacing with a new blade simply because I wanted to make sure I had the cleanest cuts with a new client that I obtained but the blade that I replaced was still cutting strong. That and I take care of my blades no matter what brand. After a full day of cutting I clean my carbides or at the very least clean up when the job is done if it's going to be a couple of days job. Do not knock the cheap blades. I mean I even had a Harbor Freight blade that outlasted a DeWalt. It's all in how you use and take care of your blades that make them last longer, but when you have Superior carbide; it's a game changer. Another reason I prefer Diablo is the thinner blade kerf. And for the price, I'm a Diablo guy all day when it comes to Framing and demo blades. For them to be able to make a blade that has a thinner blade kerf meaning thinner carbide that cuts better than some of the bigger more expensive Brands; tells me that they're carbides are harder yet somehow retain toughness to resist breakage and that the Metallurgy behind their carbides is superior. If Only They would make their router bits just as cheap. But again I understand the cost of the router bits again because they're carbides are superior in my opinion. Basically if it takes a blade, in my shop it contains a Diablo blade.

Noticing in the beginning of your video when you are showing DeWalt's test. They are using both a corded and cordless DeWalt saw vs your corded skilsaw.... I think you should redo this test using the DeWalt saws to see if you get the same results... Maybe your skilsaw is far superior and doesn't matter what blade is on there
@Three7krew
@Three7krew 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure why that would be necessary, being that the test is on the blades not the saw itself. He used not only a capable saw for the job but a neutral brand in skilsaw. Corded was the best option compared to using the battery because it’s the same power output on every run, no chance of power draining from blade to blade therefor meaning no variables between cuts. Original test showed a diablo blade failing while the crescent completed its cut. What was presented here is every blade getting a fair shake and determined that the diablo performed the best while crescent is marketing twice as good as said brand. Assuming the skilsaw is a superior saw to the dewalt, the crescent blade should have still shined while going head to head with the other blades. Im not knocking on crescent, it did well but struggled a tad bit more then the diablo which they claim to be better then. I think this portrayed all of the blades performances just fine.

I switched to Diablo by chance 10+ years ago, on chop saws, compound miter, table saws from 6 to 12 inch after my 1st by chance blade, and have not switched, on jobs I have used the full gamit, even trade a blade, but not going to switch, others have after using my blade/ saws, I do mark my blades, as they do wear, reduce efficiencies, mark them nails, soso, good blade, and have a bunch, I stock up at Christmas Black Friday sales, even better deals, have 24 tooth to 60 in 7 1/2. So great to know I'm not alone in my opinion.

One thing, the second cut had to go through the threads, while the first cut went through the fat smooth part, It's my understanding that the threads are harder than the smooth part, so good on ya for the second pass with the Diablo (and the third!)

The only way for a direct comparison is to make a fresh test sandwich for each blade. Stainless steel gets significantly harder when it gets hot. Since the first cut heats it up, the second cut has to cut through harder steel.

Probably minimal effect but the heat Treating of multiple cuts makes it tougher for that third blade to go through

I was given my fathers Craftsman table saw that was made some time in the 40's or 50's and it cut ok, nothing special it just cut ok. I replaced the blade with what I could find on sale that fit and it happened to be a Diablo carbide blade. Holy Macaroni! It cut through wood like crazy! Imbedded nails and such; no problem. I agree with these guys, Diablo works great and are inexpensive.

But the real question is how long do they all last in ipe decking? That stuff is super abrasive. The last deck I did in that stuff ate every type of blade like candy. Been a few years though and the blades have definitely improved.

CMT cuts so smooth on wood but once it hits a nail not the same again. I guess its between fine woodworking and construction work.

I've bought a new Diablo blade because my Marathon, bye Erwin was pretty shot. I put the Diablo on, and soon took it off because my old Irwin Marathon cut better than that Diablo! Now that was some time back probably 20 years but I've always used Marathon and I did get a Diablo for my little baby saw and it cut very smooth

I'm pretty impressed with the performance of the De Walt. I didn't say that sits nice in my heart. I've kinda had a strong relationship with my Diablo blades. We have been through the fire, and I know what to expect. And now there is a (new) champion out there? I dunno. Maybe yea. But I'll just wait for the NEXT contender, probably.

When cuts are made if there not straight it causes the blade to do a bad job ! I can make a harbor freight blade cut good and last if you can follow the line . If you need to clamp a straight edge to the wood it that would give you a honest test

Ok so, nails also have a different hardness rating then screws and lags. I'm not saying dewalt or crescent is better then Diablo not at all the case. Just saying nails cut different then lags and screws.
