Was helping build a house today and literally had an issue with the M18 Fuel quick release collet someone else brought. I gotta say, despite being an old underdog, my DeWalt 885 has been great and the quick insert collet has no issues. :D

Yes! I'm also a proud owner of an 885 and that impact has served me well for a long time. It's ran thousands of fasteners and never gave me any trouble. She'll get hot enough to cook an egg at times but never developed a smoking problem 😂

I’ve been on the Makita platform for 10 years as an HVAC professional. And the new Makita XDT16 is by far the best I’ve ever used. The many options on it help to keep me from stripping screws. I don’t need the most powerful, the xdt16 is by far more than enough. Awesome product.

I'm with you, Makita has the best power to weight ratio. They're usually lighter for the power and a smaller head to get in spaces. They're longevity and durability are awesome as well. When crawling in an attic and the drill falls and hits drywall your happy for the smaller size

i have a makita and i do drywall and when i use my impact goes right through the drywall use it for heavy Gauge only but i have drop my impact 6ft+ a couple times there good tools and battery are cheaper than Milwaukee

And i have some 220v grinders,a big 220v vacuum and they are also made in china. Best tools you can buy to use and abuse every day in my opinion. And 90% of people i see on construction sites use makita tools,no one even bothers with DeWalt or Milwaukee. The other 10% use Bosch.

I've been through Hitachi and Milwaukee.. both had big issues more with the drill. I'm running Makita and I've put it through hell! It's full of concrete and I can barely twist the drill setting. Still running perfect! The impact driver is by far the most comfortable to use out of those 3 brands I've had experience with.

I’m sure he’s frustrated from the response of them doing nothing so he made this video.(I would’ve done the same) he is one of Milwaukee’s best sales rep out there that doesn’t work for them. He reaches millions of people at the click of a button. They need to fix their product and if not I’m glad he’s telling us to switch to makita for the better tool.

I bought my first Makita impact drill 8 or 9 years ago and use it every day, all day long . It's still working great although I've gone through several batteries. Makita had a real battery longevity issues with their early LI Ion batteries but the new designs seem to hold up well. I've dropped all my drills multiple time onto hard surfaces from one and two story scaffolding and they have always survived.I just can't seem to kill them. I used Dewalt for years but every one I owned failed due to some switch problem. I see a lot of tradesman with the Milwakees so I know their a great drill, and I think it comes down to these two. Naturally you tend to get locked into a brand of cordless tools once you start buying the more expensive higher amperage batteries. I've found Makita makes a line of cordless tools that are durable and long lasting so I've stuck with them, but truthfully I'm not knocking any other contactor grade brands because I've just stuck with the brand that treats me well.I'm 68 and when I was younger I remember the first cordless drills and I said what a joke ; I just never thought they'd make a significant "impact" on most jobs. Was I wrong.I bought the Makita cordless impact wrench and I can take all the wheels off both my trucks and reinstall with a fully charged 5 amp battery. Amazing.

I'll take the Makita every time. They have been doing cordless longer then any other brand and I have never retired a Makita cordless because it broke. Matter of fact I can probably find most of them still in my shed in working order but I doubt the batteries would hold a charge any more. I recently picked up Makita's brushless 1/2" drill and driver combo to replace the ones I've been using professionally for the last 10 years without a flaw and I was wholly impressed. The drill has some real heft to it and can output some real wrist breaking torque and is likely why it came with a side handle. The impact driver is the best I have ever used and I suspect it will be just as capable 10 years from now. With the 5 amp hour batteries I can go several days some times before having to put them on the charger and I'm building decks. The programmable speed settings on the driver comes in handy because the max setting can be a little much on some work. The LED lights on both are great too. Anyone using these types of tools on a day to day will eventually drop them and we all want to them to survive the impact and I can attests that the Makita's that I have owned have taken dives off second story roof tops to concrete and survived. With my latest purchase I have only one complaint and that is the soft case that it comes with, (AKA: A bag), is to small to fit everything. There is no way to fit the side handle for the drill in the case no matter what angle or direction I may try. The case is to small. I don't even bother trying to zipper it up. Give me a hard case for my tools.

I feel left out. I purchased the M18 gen3 impact when it came out. Im a commercial sheet metal worker and use this impact everyday. Self tapping screws, concrete anchors, and drilling with a uni bit are what I use it the most for. I’ve never had this issue...

Honestly your tool tests and raw streams are the best. Yeah its great to look at mosfets and engineering but I would rather see the tools drive, drill, hammer and gauge for myself what I think. When watching you guys go head to head and seeing one tool is only .5~1 second faster driving a lag, it puts it into perspective that it might be more important to look at other factors like price, availability, combos or if you already have the battery line. Keep up the good work.

Im a canadian redseal I.S.M using my 2 dewalt 885s for 7 years and my 2 887s for 3 years , in winnipeg in -40 C to + 40 C the 885s have both been dropped from scissor lifts 30+ feet onto concrete and still run fine , the 887s have taken baker scaffold drops , a new shaft later , they run in all conditions ( -30 C being my limit) and have never failed me . i do like makita triggers more . but out here my dewalts are bullet proof , and apprentice proof. love the videos , thanks for making them.

I started on Milwaukee’s platform from watching you. Then I jumped on makita when they had those killer saw deals recently. Then I found myself picking up the xtd16 and I have the gen 3 impact and m12 fuel impacts but when I need an impact I grab my makita xtd16 every time. If I ever have to drill lag after lag then I might grab gen 3 but you can control the makita and use different settings for whatever your drilling. It is definitely the best impact on the market

I've had Makita's phatty XPH07Z brushless hammer drill for 2 years. It was a monster but it's getting weaker. Found myself often reaching for a Ryobi impact driver because it's so much lighter. No where near the quality or power of Makita, but different tools fit in different situations. My neighbor has Milwaukee tools and they're honestly impressive and affordable considering long term battery costs and tool sales.

Iloveapplefritters, you obviously aren’t on Milwaukee’s M12 or M18 platforms and it’s obvious you don’t know what you’re talking about. When was the last time you owned a Milwaukee power tool? Milwaukee has had many innovations in the past 15 years, e.g. 18V lithium ion platform to name one. How can they be going down in quality when they have record year over year earnings? They make great tools, tools built to last. I know because I own and use them. When was the last time you called Milwaukee’s customer service, 1-800-SAW-DUST? They have service second to none, with the exception of Hilti or Festool. The6 are courteous, knowledgeable and responsive. If the tools been used and there’s an issue, Milwaukee will most likely honor their 5 year warranty (5 yr on most tools), unless the tool of course showed signs of abuse, then I suppose it would be subjective. You say down hill in the last 15 years...compared to what. Give examples and be specific! They have had all new innovation into brushless, then their Fuel platform within only the last 7 years or so. I really think you’re talking out of the dark side.

Over the years, I've learned that every company makes stuff that's at least works and maybe isn't the best when compared to others. It really depends on our experience. Milwaukee is really trying to innovate and get into the different trades like Dewalt. It's a real shame that Milwaukee hasn't figured out how to fix the collet issue with their GEN3 impact. Hasn't it been about three years so far? I don't have that impact so I haven't had to deal with the problem (I have three different Makita impacts and a Ridgid with no problems). Ridgid made things right replacing the chuck and motor twice on my 12V drill driver (the chuck keeps loosening and dropping bits). And Ridgid made that model drill where the chuck is riveted to the motor. A impact collet can't be that expensive to replace with one with better retention. Great vid! For me the platform is more important than a single tool, and I'm not a contractor that needs to have the best of each tool. But yeah I'm on the Makita platform and love this impact driver. Always been impressed by Milwaukee's power in all their tools though and almost went team red, but ultimately the range and quality of Makita's tools won me over. I'm still looking for an excuse to get on team red lol I'm eyeing out the cordless table saw since Makita just doesn't seem like they'll release one.

Being a fan of kobalt. Im just happy they are up there with the big guys. Everyone i work with loves dewalt. I always thought they were over priced for the quality. Whenever they would use my kobalt tools they would be impressed. I also ran a 12v milwaukee line. Kept a 12v impact and 12v wratchet in my tool bag at all times.

I use Hilti now but for many years I used Makita. Makita are superb tools. I have four Milwaukee tools and they are all unreliable. I personally think that Hilti is best and you pay for that quality but you won't go wrong with Makita. They will work all day every day for many years. All our work supplied drills are Makita. 👍👍👍. @@tcseacliff for car work I would go with the impact wrench instead of these impact drivers. I use the m12 3/8 drive for work and it has a lot of torque. I paired it with the 3/8 drive ratchet.

Stands up well!!! I have two Hitachi versions and the internals are every bit as good as my Makitas!! It should be a reliable upgrade for you!! It also has the best ergonomics/grip IMO of the impacts I own, followed by Makita.

I started plumbing 9 years ago. I did some research and decided early on I was gonna choose mikita even though most plumbers either use the yellow or the red brand. Countless job later and 9 years my compact saw all went to heaven last week and today so did my impact. I use it mostly to drill holes with a paddle bit to reroute water and gas lines so this review is perfect for me. I'm really hard on my tools so it's nice not having to buy new tools every other year.

Just want to say First and foremost that I Love your videos. I find real world testing to be the best & I honestly watch your reviews before purchasing anything Milwaukee. I am on this platform & don’t see myself changing anytime soon. Now I haven’t read many forums on this issue so I can’t speak on the volume of this problem, but 4 of my coworkers & myself have the fuel m18 & we absolutely love it for its power! Only one of my co workers have had issues but it’s been with the trigger not always engaging. He’s now had two Fuels with the same issue. We build Rvs for a living so the amount of screws we run daily in my opinion is unmatched by most. I myself run 1,200 to 2,000 metal screws daily for the rafters on the roofs I build. We do 21 units a day. My partner has the Makita from this video and my driving power is unmatched, he can’t keep up. I’ve had this impact for about 2 years now & have been through many cycles on my batteries with zero issues. That’s real world testing at its finest. Even if I do have a problem I still have 3 years left on the warranty! That in my opinion is a no brainer. Milwaukee all the way!

I got my M18 Fuel like 5 weeks ago and i use large spade bits through multiple studs and i haven't had this issue, I have it no lock but once I re enter it, it never comes back out, but the collet is definitely screwy

Dude i have 3 fords with 240 to 370k on them still going strong and have seen 500k miles fords dozens of times. Toyotas do NOT last any longer. I know guys who work at toyota as techs and they drive fords and chevys because toy's arent what they're made out to be. No reason to buy foreign at all.

I've got a Makita 12 volt and that thing kicks ass, even on big lag screws. I love Makita, De Walt and Milwaukee and have all three platforms. They're all good depending on the tool. Some are way better than others.

Thanks Vince -- excellent video, and you what you're hitting on is, I think, a critical point for tool evaluation in general. Manufacturers can jack up a particular feature that they know drives sales - but wind up neglecting others that are at least as important but maybe not "hot" features that drive sales. In this case - the XDT16 might not have quite as much high end torque as the Milwaukee, but in real world use it's a great tool for many reasons - AND has a fully functional collet that won't accidentally drop a bit. SO important to consider all the features that are part of real life experience in real jobs, not just the ones that grab marketing headlines.

Project Farms video was strictly testing performance. That is how he does his videos and testing, and it works really good for a lot of things, ex: drill bits, utility knife blades, etc. But for tests with tools, it is something you need to take with a grain of salt because it doesn't always relate to real world performance and potential issues with the tool, ex: milwaukee's quick release issue. That's why I'm subscribed to both VGC and Project Farm. Both channels are thorough in their own way and are looking out for their viewers regarding what products to buy/not buy.

I started a job near my old home before quarentine and i forget my skillsaw. I found at my father garage a 35 years old 7"1/4 Makita skillsaw He used to maneged and old carpenter where they make carved furniture and they used it like a table saw and that thing still working perfectly well.

I own a cabinet shop! I have used all the big name drills. I have makita drills that are over 15 years old that still work great. I absolutely love the way makita has transformed all their corded power tools to battery. It sure makes installing cabinets a lot more convenient!

I like Makita for being lightweight and durable. Even though I know it doesn’t have as much torque as the other big brands. Plus it always seems to stay cool and the battery lasts longer.

I am finding the batteries are as important to me as the tools. Yes I like the high outputs but I like the Bosch batteries best, I think maybe dewalt even has a similar size 4ah compact 21700 battery. That’s important to me, small but powerful. Might go skil too at those prices I can just replace them when they break

I have an old bosch cordless tool set ( 10 years old ) that has never given me any problems. The batteries still charge to maximum capacity, whilst delivering a decent run time.

i recently switched from dewalt to bosch (hammer drill, freak impact, and recip saw) and love them! the batteries even work with my dewalt heated jacket with an adapter. no longer a black and yellow fan boy

@@Fee.1 I have dewalt 2.0 batteries that are pretty small that I use most of the time, but when I need the jacket on high for a long time the 4.0 are nice. the bosch adapter has a belt clip so its not bad.

Amazing response... People don't understand life isn't based solely on science. You can't quantify feel, ergonomics, etc... Yes, there's a little drawback of not having completely interchangeable batteries, but that's what an adapter is made for. Also buy once cry once too, good tool are not expensive in the long run because they last.

Then again, I don't have any power tools right now, as a while ago, all of my tools grew legs one day and I haven't seen them sense. I had an older Ryobi kit, but I was tired of buying replacement batteries that only lasted a short amount of time when I would try to use them on jobsites. Anyway, I'm about ready to dive into the Milwaukee tools, because that is what I had before, and they never let me down. So as soon as I see the next installment of the Milwaukee tools Pipeline and they tell us some more info on the tools they plan on releasing, I'll go out and begin replacing. I mean, if they are releasing a new impact and a better collet, then it is worth the wait.

@@jmackinjersey1 sad that it happened to you. Tools are not cheap. Yeap, milwaukee has never let me down too. I used the m12 line for installation... Compact and powerful. I'm really happy with them. For woodworking side, I use dewalt 20V line, that's where milwaukee is still playing catch up. I will say makita has the best fit and finish, and what I believe to be the longest lasting of the big three brands, just a little pricey.

@@free2chasehappy Well, I learned the hard way that it is worth the extra dollars to get the HD Extended Warranty on the power tools. I'll pay $100 dollars for an extra three years, no question asked replacement on a $500 miter saw, on top of the manufacturers warranty. 8 years in total.

I'm a Millwright, and I've gotta say Milwaukee will always be my cordless tool of choice, thats just me. I have respect for the other cordless, like Dewalt, Makita, and Rigid. Rigid has the best battery warranty out there today! I've always favored the Milwaukee. I have yet to experience the "quick" connect. Still have my manual connect, and have no issues. I understand the engineers wanting make things easier for us and to make the job go faster, but you know the old saying, "if it aint broke"... Thank you for this video! I used that dewalt impact every day for a few years before recently switching to bosch (dewalt still works though) there is no protection on that dewalt, so its easy to smoke if you dont regularly let it cool off... any time mine started to get hot I let it cool. if you arent stressing the drill or if you let it cool off when needed (or dont use nonstop) then it wont be an issue

Awesome video Vince! This is less for the impacts but more for those open mouth breathers that believe everything online. I like how you are never bias or brush over things for convinince sake. I'm a dewalt man and I got one of those impacts in a kit. Every open mouth breathers has to tell me how it will blow up one day... I just explain that I'm aware and the say it does I won't get another one. Then you get everyone with their opinions. The only one il take notice of is Vinces 😂 here in Australia Milwaukee and Makita are the 2 brands with the most range by leaps and bounds. Dewalt gets the short end of the stick.

@donkey ass reviews and do's Makita did not invent the cordless drill. Black and Decker did that in 1961, YEARS before Any other brand. Yes, I've owned the Makita in the past, but they were stuck in first gear and everyone else blew past them in performance and they continued to produce the same old tools. Eventually they came out with new and improved tools, but they were and still are in a catch up mode. Are they good tools? Of course, I'm not taking that away. But we all have different needs, and we all know that when it comes to power and performance, Milwaukee dominates in that part of the market. Longevity? Milwaukee is also a leader in that arena, and I will also give a nod to Makita in their longevity department. Where are these "false figures" that you make claim to?

@donkey ass reviews and do's Also, when you are using Any power tool, you should be using ear/eye protection. When you are on a job site and there are a lot of things going on, you should be wearing safety gear any way. So if one tool makes 2 Db more than another tool, it really isn't a big deal.

I’ve had this issue with the Milwaukee impact for 3 years now. I just always thought maybe I went to deep with the spade bits. But that’s not the case. And going on year 3, now my collet doesn’t accept my drill bits willingly. I have to manipulate it by pulling, twisting and spinning my bit before it accepts it.
