Im sure you mean well and are technically correct, but the language you use in this video is very disrespectful to the patient. Fill "until their toes curl." Have you had one of these? Do you know how the patient feels? Many in this position feel very vulnerable and may not communicate well. Maybe you didnt really say this. Please let me know if I misunderstood. Also saying "we put towels down to keep (the patient) from making such a mess" sounds so callous. Where in this do you teach how to mitigate the embarrassment feels in this situation? I had this done and had to hear this kind of language. It felt very demeaning. Please take this down and redo it in a way that considers the patient more highly than a dog.

The statement to the toes curl is primarily with children that are to young to tell you the bladder is full. I have done many of these and we are always careful to help with patients modesty. The towels are to prevent them from making so much of a mess that it comes off the table. Every thing done in this procedure is help patient feel comfortable enough while still needing to void on a table with strangers watching taking x-rays. Signs are hung for no one to enter during exam and only necessary people are allowed in room. The description given during video is for students to see the positioning aspects of this procedure and the handling of patient is discussed during lecture in great detail about being professional and making patient as comfortable as possible under the circumstance.

To anybody watching this video hoping to gain insight into the VCUG procedure, this procedure is cruel and has the potential to cause irreparable psychological harm equivalent to a violent rape. The risks are rarely communicated to families and they cannot make informed decisions, but the truth is that this procedure is painful, embarrassing, and can result in severe life-altering trauma.
