I listened to this maybe 15 times back to back this afternoon, then I suddenly got to thinking, 'what if' the rocket boosters you can see roaring as the space craft powers into outer space, what if that roar you can clearly hear, is not actually the sound from the rocket boosters that you can see, but the genius of the creator of this jam? And I thought no, no, it can't be. But if it is OMG what a brilliant idea, an insane idea. I'll never know I guess, but it's worth trying it out if that isn't what you did. Brilliant production.
@Synthikat6 жыл бұрын
First of all thank you for your kind feedback and your time listening to that song. Actually a good idea with that booster but this sound at the end is coming from the nasa recording of the space craft. Its the only sound not coming from VCV. But i think you could copy that pretty good with a LP filtered noise and some modulated distortion (especially at the end the sound gets so fucked up because the microphones of the recording starts to distort). I think that launch was pretty loud. :) And again thanks for your feedback. Cheers!
@barrowmeoct046 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, I honestly think it was very well put together with the surprising end to it as well, it put the icing on the cake to the music I was already enjoying. Although I've been listening to modular music for a few years now, I am completely new to VCV, and wouldn't know where to begin with hardware. That rocket booster sound though, it's beautiful, that powerful crackling, bunsen-burner-like sound, times 1000,000, I don't know what it is, love it. Thanks again.
@barrowmeoct046 жыл бұрын
Update, you were on point about the low pass filtered noise, I literally just saw someone discussing white noise, and using a filter (hardware) which created the exact sound of a rocket booster. Glad to have stumbled on your channel, you came highly recommended by 'Modular Curiosity' and 'The Art of Sound'.

Loving all your videos, they are a huge inspiration to get into this program. Quick question... it looks really complicated... Is there a lot of pre-planning involved and wrapping your head around a lot of advanced/technical stuff? Or is it more a matter of experimenting and just plugging a bunch of stuff in and seeing what happens? Can you get a fast workflow going, or does it take a while? I'm familiar with traditional synth techniques and stuff. This just looks like a lot to keep track of!
@Synthikat6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I mostly start with an idea of a technical concept to build a sound i got in my head. Sometimes i work 2 or 3 days on a patch and sometimes i am ready after 3 hours of patching. I am pretty happy with my workflow in VCV Rack. But of course a good knowledge about synthesis helps you to get good results quick.
@mrz804 жыл бұрын
I would start with building a simple patch that mimics a synth you're familiar with as a jumping-off point, then add on from there.

How beefy of a computer would a patch like this need to run well? I know it’s a tough question but could most computers handle it, or would you need to build a specialized PC? Could you get it done for $1k? Thanks

how are you modulating the macro oscillators edit button? i'm currently playing around with the vst fork called veeseevst but never found a way to do this. is this specific to the original vcv? i see no modulation input here as well so how actually does this work?
@Synthikat6 жыл бұрын
You can set it to "Meta Mode" (right click) in the menu and then the FM input modulates the mode selection.

hey, im on vcv 0.5.1 and lots of my third party plug-ins don't show up... for example jw-modules or Aepelzens just dont show up in the program... but others like the Vult pack do work well. Is this a known issue? i thought it might have to do with compability issues anyway if by any chance you know how to fix this would be very much appreciated!

the biggest downfall for a lot of people is their GPU. I'm working with a 2012 windows laptop. the cpu and all that is fine but the GPU is lacking big time. Alos, IIRC VCV doesn't support multi-core processing so the speed of each core is more important at this stage than the amount of cores. who knows what the future will bring

@Synthikat7 жыл бұрын
I stopped sharing patches since 0.5.0 because the most patches got destroyed because i was using modules that have changed over time. Some of the patches i cant even open by myself. But here u can find some patches of mine: patchstorage.com/author/synthikat/ And here is the old and broken version of the OrbitalChords patch but it does sound different. Some modules changed there connections or got lost because of changed names: www.dropbox.com/s/9406cossmihsqcp/Orbital%20Chords%20Old%20and%20Broken.vcv?dl=0

How'd you constrain the pitches on the chords to remain in neat 3rds of each other? I've found it difficult to send out voltages in such a way that would cleanly quantize like that when ran through H-bar if that makes any sense - like is it sending a specific note output from 1 sequencer and then shifting that for the thirds to split it out to 3 different voices or... because I don't see 3 different sequencers just glancing over this going out to chords or not - I've been splitting it into different sequencers and then manually fiddling with the knobs to get them into a chord, just wondering if there's a better way to do it that I haven't figured out yet... (especially when working with the Quantum scale quantizer, which I've found to be pretty finnicky to work with. Also seperating the chords into 3 different sequencer runs into issues like trying to synchronize them to start their triggers at the same time, everytime I open the project they're in different positions). Sorry for the super lengthy question though, I hope that's not annoying. The song itself sounds pretty sweet, the chords are a lot more lush then most VCV rack stuff I've heard so far - really dreamy atmosphere going on

Hey thanks for your comment. It is a good question and not to long :) I made a tutorial where i show how i build my chord patches. In this patch i did it exactly like in my tutorial. Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fampdImFpJ1qndU I hope i can help u with that. But there is more ways than 1 to archive this chords. i like it that way because its flexible.
