Don't expect to be able to do what Colin does. Very few people are able to actually make music with a modular like him. Even synth experts like Richard Devine. Most people simply make bleeps and noises and sample them to use in a DAW. I'm affraid what he does is extremely difficult for us common mortals.

Ahhhhh yesssss!!! It is weird that I am hearing this Digitally (16bit 48,000 khz.) yet still admiring the beautiful warm sound of Analogue. I guess my ear buds have got a great DAC. Dolby Atmos music setting adds volume and wider space. This is just beautiful. The bass massages your ear drum with the right intensities to trigger that wonderful feel good chemical - Dopamine :)

Amazing tune! Love the ambience on this one. One time I heard you talk about your pillars of making music - melody, groove, ambience, harmony and tension span. Could you talk about your thought process when you were tending to the pillars when working on this song - specifically curious about how you handle tension.

heh I remember that session! So tension for me is always the sum of everything you have going in your song. usually I am not concerned with tension until I have all the other elements covered (melody, groove, bassline, ambience etc). only when I have everything in position will I start looking at the actual tension span of the song, which is somewhat like story telling. theres always points where you just want to plateau and groove out on what you have and there are point where you wish you'd be one step up from where you are. when working the tension span, the trick is to try and make your listening ear so eager for the proper change that everything will start falling in place for when it happens. this can be up from where you are, but it can also be down (we all need peace sometimes). actually the tension part is where you start playing your song. everything else is grooming the parts, the music happens when you play it. its a very intuitive process, sometimes you'll be doing things where conciously you have no clue where you're going but you know it will make sense if you just keep following along... oh well I think you get the gist of it ;-)

The snare is a mutant machine, sidechained by the kickdrum. On its own this snare is pretty thin but its just right when combined with the kick!

Hey sorry if this was already asked elsewhere but what module(s) are you using for output(1/4" out I assume) and is the output stereo?.

Hey! At the moment i am using simple 1/8" to 1/4" converters to go into my AD interface. I seperate the recording over 12-16 tracks so I can mix/edit stuff later. What you hear here is just the stereo reference mix that I use when streaming.

I haven't been streaming lately, however I am planning another run pretty soon! as for the kickdrum, in this track I have made my own with 1 osc, 2 envelopes and a vca: envelope 1 goes into the kick's FM input (slightly attenuated to keep the highest pitch under control) envelope 2 goes into the vca. sinewave out also goes into the vca. trick is to keep envelope 1 short and punchy, while making envelope 2 a bit longer and stretched for as long as you want the kick to be. mix and tune to taste. try it!
