I recently bought this book because I am wanting to run the campaign for my group. I was very disappointed when I looked online for advice so much of it was just negative. While yes, this book is not perfect, it had a lot of great ideas. Just needs some polish! So I very much appreciate your positive approach to this. And plan on watching the whole guide series.

Yes I’ll do the entire thing and add anything I can offer from my time to give you all you need to shape your game.

Great video. Love the interjections. And hearing a British voice! Not sure the stat blocks stuff at the end is worth the time for me, but maybe others find it useful 🤷♂️
@robodad13 ай бұрын
Thanks. It’s a pain doing the stats but I figure newbies might benefit from anything they haven’t picked up on but I’d love to know if I can drop them.

Loving the video mate! Very keen to see the rest of them. Quick thing is that is that it should be noted when you find out a secret you don’t automatically get the advantage on d20 rolls straight away, you only get it when you whisper the secret out loud, and you should probably tell your players that you can do this whenever you want and that saving them has an impact on the final chapter 🤙🏼
@robodad13 ай бұрын
Yeah I kinda gloss over them because A/ you’ve read the book yourself so I guess you as the DM knows already and B/ I don’t actually like that bit. It’s so bland to me.

Thank you for this guide!! I am trying to hack some things to fit my table a bit better (perhaps get some inspiration from the older Vecna adventures, like Vecna Reborn at some point) and having this overview of the start gave me more insights. Good video!!

Hey thanks. Best of luck with that.

I'd double all the encounter size or at least monster HP with a group that size. the first dungeon here did not seem like it could ever threaten even 4, 10th level characters.

I have a big group that like to play and we haven’t been able to get together for a while. We’ve always wanted to do a higher level adventure, stretch it out for years kinda deal. The group loves pitching me character or group of character concepts. We have 7 players and a dm and they had me build a theoretic group to run high level with and man I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was super hype to try this adventure with this giant amazing party. Do you think adding one to many players would make it too difficult to balance combat in this adventure?
@robodad14 ай бұрын
My opinion is that having more players means people can drop out and you still get a game. This could be dragged out for years without an issue. For example you go down the underdark- so you could play as much out of the abyss as you wanted before carrying on with vecna content. As for Balancing combat- (watch my video on How to balance encounters) my view is there are loads of ways to make that not an issue. You just blurt the lines from hard stats to monsters Bowing out in cool moments.

@@robodad1 hell yeah, we’ve played with 7 before, I actually love it. We have a good group for it. Thank you for the feedback

But would you reccomend this book? Also do i need a book for each plane/Realm to rum this to the fullest?
@robodad14 ай бұрын
I think that is their plan. Cynically you could think that it’s to bait you into getting the other books but then they’ve spent fifty years tying this stuff together and thus seems like the obvious ‘end game’.
@robodad14 ай бұрын
The answer is yes. Although I’ll try bridge that gap first you.
@andreasmarcoulis24794 ай бұрын
Thanks!!! I am excited and ready to make a campaign fir each realm to my players and then conclude it with this endgame. Maybe tie in the infinite staircase and the Djinn as the "how" tbey go bavk to the future or how they complete their wish

@@robodad1 I’ve only just started listening to your break down. I’m a few months of running this so I’m trying to get inspo. The biggest gap for me in the adventure is the lack of the Bug Man himself. Do you have any tips/ideas on introducing him a bit more?
@robodad13 ай бұрын
If you mean ‘How to introduce Vecna’ you could slide a book into your current game mentioning his lore. Foreshadowing. Or start the Vecna game with a described cut scene “long ago there was a wizard, maybe human or maybe eleven, that detail of is lost to the sands of time…’ Or have a man approaching the party die in their arms and say ‘he…is.. risen!’ He stood a book info dumping the lore. Is that what you meant?
@robodad13 ай бұрын
Or the party pass a stage performance where they can join in and one plays Vecna and is given direction by an actor. ‘He’s the Whispered One’
@drdm24463 ай бұрын
Did you notice they mention a character with thieves tools can make a dexterity (sleight of hand) check to open a lock (e.g. C5, C11, C20 - I even turned to a random page and found it again in V10 page 122). Wait a minute, have I been playing thieves tools wrong all this time? Why would a rogue be proficient with thieves tools if all you need is to have them and be proficient in sleight of hand (which is applicable in more situations)? I’ve checked the PHB and it doesn’t say much of use. The DMG (pg103 on ‘locked doors’) says “…pick the lock with a successful dexterity check (doing so requires thieves tools and proficiency in their use).” This seems to go against the VEoR text. Has the ruling changed? Am I missing something here? A quick internet search seems to confirm the DMG, not VEoR. 🤷♂️
@robodad13 ай бұрын
They seem to specify having Thieves Tools rather than sticking a dagger in a keyhole. Alternatively they give a strength dc to smash stuff open.

Wow really disappointed with those maps... I mean common we are in the age of VTT's and would love to load some decent maps into them, at least with Rime of the Frost maiden that maps where passable with a little color but we are back to pencil sketches? really?
