Dragons were actually quite the spellcasters to start with if you play Becmi. They're just bringing old stuff back.

Thanks for the tip on giving the dragon full HP. Our group just killed one on Skyreach Castle, so that feels a bit samey. I'll bring the trolls in earlier too because the party has the staff of fire and Rezmir's greatsword. They're well equipped to kill things.

Damn, they are evolving almost as fast as Orcs evolved from (supposedly) black people into mexicans :D I'd like to note that the Dragons have had these personalities for quite a while now, but it is interesting to see it reflected in their capabilities like that.

Ah, I remember Ye Olden Days of 1E when dragons were basically just a bag of hit points with a breath weapon, meant to be pounded with non-lethal damage, hauled back to town and sold off as a bonus to looting their lair. Ah, the good old days :-)

The only place I usually see this feat regularly used is with Spellcasters. They take this for Constitution, which boosts their Concentration checks with a flat, scaling number.

Damage Reduction ins't like extra armor at all. Damage Reduction means you reduce the damage the creature takes. SO that Slag Frog you showed had DR3 so if you hit it for 10pts of damage. It would only take 7. That's DR = Damage Reduction.

I really want to start with this quest as I just gave my players access to the Infinite Staircase in our homebrew but they are level 6. I’m not sure how to go about balancing the dungeon. I was thinking about leaving the small things weak so they can blast through them but make the cult groups harder for their level.

So no reason for the DM to give out magic items anymore. Just get your artificer to make whatever you want. Better yet, an entire party of Artificers making all their own magic stuff. Truthfully, that sounds absolutely boring to me >.<

The problem with piercer is that it generally will not be better than just a straight up enhancement to your strength or dexterity score. Especially since dexterity, which determines both ac and damage and saves, is such a powerful ability score. However, with a rogue, it can sometimes be nice because you can reroll a die in your sneak attack this way, and lets you pick from a large number of dice, some of which might be a guaranteed same or higher result, such as a 1.
@robodad1
@robodad1 4 күн бұрын
Ah I see
@relaxedfantasyreview

I can see this being alright with the PHB guns, since they do piercing damage, and they have higher dice (a d10 for the Pistol and a d12 for the Musket) and the Pistol gives you Vex so you can roll with Advantage often and get crits more regularly. Not sure I'd take it for a Rapier or Longbow build though 🤔

What do I do if my party has been friends with the cult since chapter 2 and one of my players seduces Rezmir and tries to fight another mask holder that they have resistance to attacks and breath attacks then beat that other half dragon in one on one fight no bs outside of fighter/Goliath/barbarian stuff claiming a mask similar to Rezmir's black mask?

Being friends with the cult? The cult can betray that friendship in order to them as fuel for the ritual to bring back Tiamat in the well of dragons climax at the end. …and the cult would think it’s an honour. If the other problem is that they are too strong as players then introduce another rank of bigger and badder generals (maybe fiends from Hell?) to be a bigger problem and they aren’t friends with anyone. The book has The Cult Strikes Back section to swing the story back in favour of the cult with massive power that can overwhelm a city meaning the only way to win is by stopping the ritual. Or simply introduce a new item which can control all dragon masks. The Draconica Magnifica and have it do what you need.

If your mount were to die this feat would be kinda useless. That's probably why you can redirect the damage to yourself.
@relaxedfantasyreview

The expertise is tempting, but the skill expert feat does that, plus an extra proficiency. The Search action specifically is when a creature makes an Insight, Medicine, Perception or Survival check, and as you said, those are usually done outside of combat, so Action economy is mostly irrelevant. Maaaaybe it could be used to find hidden creatures in Combat? Now that Stealth is a flat check rather than contesting passive perception, actually doing Perception checks mid combat might be useful, but very rarely.

It's hard to think of a character that benefits from this: -Barbarian, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Paladin and Ranger all get the ability or option to use Martial weapons at level 1 -Sorcerers and Wizards don't really benefit from having Martial weapons -Warlocks can gain proficiency in any Martial melee weapon with pact of the blade -Monks and Rogues get Martial weapons that specifically work with their class features Maaaaybe Bards would like this? But at level 3, you can choose the Valor subclass, which gives it to you anyway.
