Probably because the two games were released in 1995 and late 1996 respectively. The Genesis was pretty much dead at that point due to the PlayStation.

The first game was a pretty big hit, hence how it got an immediate sequel on the same hardware despite it being 1995. Only one other game did that and that was Earthworm Jim which also had it’s sequel released on every platform on the planet, which is what Vectorman 2 should have done.

@HiddenSofa You have to play the first one. That game has a cleaner, more futuristic vibe. It's such a great feel and gameplay. Vectorman sounds cooler, and the music rules. The enemies are all robotic in that one, no organic enemies. It's more or less Vectorman against his own kind

I haven't played this game in ages and when I finally did, I did good against the first two bosses but when it came down to the Cave Snakes, they kicked me ass because of their unpredictable attacks. I have 16 lives before I faced them and after much trial and error, I only had fucking 6 lives left. I was so pissed lol. That one boss battle screwed me over 10 times xD.

For sega's responce to Metroid I gotta say it was the first game to prove that the Genesis has so many color's to offer. (Sonic all ready established this but this is a hole new level of color) Metroid was dark and intence,center'd around aliens and survival. Vector man doesn't take the dark route but to it's advantage the bosses are far more obsessed with killing there enemy. The music is very disco like but your too busy trying to survive and if you love the music it could be a weapon of death

Vectorman destroy the mutant insects nest with some kind of energy wave and restores the enviroment to a clean state, more or less, remember both games have a huge emphasis in ecology and enviromental issues just like other games of the era in the Génesis, such as Ecco the dolphin or Sonic...

What kind of ending was that?! How the hell did that platform rocket into the sky?! I love these games but what was Blue Sky software thinking? The ending sould have shown the Spider's fortress crumbling to the ground, Vectorman and the other orbots killing the rest of the bugs and finishing earth's clean up!

The platform didn't rocketed, it was the walls falling around Vectorman and showing the clean sky behind it, remember, in the final level vectorman goes up like in a tower or something...

Am I the only one who doesn’t really like this game compared to the first? Idk, I liked the aesthetic of the first game, but not the second, as the environments & level designs are either too dark or too harsh. Not to mention, I kinda liked when Vectorman himself didn’t really have a voice. And the sound effects for damaging the bosses in the second kinda get really annoying after a while.
