Very impressive you are integrating a laser with the Vectrex, too cool! Cannot wait to see the end result. Love Rip Off and one of my very first vector arcade memories next to Asteroids when I was a kid. This is one of the very first co-op games I enjoyed playing with my brothers in the very early 80s. Always loved the phosphor decay on that one! One of Tim Skelly's best! Nice remote LED lghting strip addition and glad you got another video editor btw.

Never thought of modding a laser that way. Very creative.

Noice! Ripoff is best as a coctail-table, IMHO.

In the UK, that ''Rip-Off' game is called 'Space Pirates'. Great game, 'specially in 2-player.

Wow if u get that vectrex projector to display properly it will be epic! Have you ever thought of pulling the lasers out of a christmas display that projects onto a house? They are reasonably cheap, yet can project like 100 feet or more! Imagine sitting on the back deck with a beer at night, playing vetctrex in the sky!

Great project! For the Z-amp, can you put the 5V regulator before the MOSFET instead of after? The switching speed should be better that way.

could you use a low persistence laser reactive phosphor on the projection screen surface that would react to laser light enabling one to use lower point scan speed ? the example on youtube of "Laser on a Phosphorus disk" comes to mind but you would have to use a shorter persistence phosphor , this would slow down the number of points needed to be drawn a second by the beam diverter hardware.

Spencer's Gifts a few years ago and saw a laser projector that was dong shapes like squares triangles and rectangles and projecting them onto a wall. I thought it was kinda cool. but then I had I weird idea of mmmm? what if one could incorporate vector graphics with a lazier projected and play games like asteroids Tempest star Castle on a really big wall. well you are coming up with the idea as well so good luck I hope and really think it could work.

You had some pretty cool stuff for end credits where you'd scroll a piece of paper. Man, that was even better than fancy graphics. I'm dead serious. Think outside of the box! But maybe you can edit a montage of previous episodes around a royalty free theme song? Something super short that you can tack onto the beginning?

You would do better to put a couple of I2C or SPI DACS onto a small ARM board and use MAME or similar to emulate the arcade game, that way you could clock out the vectors at a rate more suitable for laser scanner.
@ArcadeJason
@ArcadeJason 7 жыл бұрын
that would work !!!!! I did under clock the vectrex i just wanted to see how close i can get with real hardware. ii if i had way faster (more $$$$) galvos it might work thanks for subscribing

You might want to watch this, I am not sure how optimized the beam travel is on the Vextrex output. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJyrm3ptap50eLs

either faster galvos, or ... buy one or two more sets, and distribute vectors to multiple lasers so you get some parallelism... plus software to optimise drawing order, maybe something like a travelling salesman ...
