Just came back after 3 years to double check that 15v boost converter setup.. Such a clever trick! I used it last time and about to do it again on another board repair. I made a little wire harness and that boost converter and i connect the deflection output to my tiny Tektronix 214 portable analog scope. the perfect mini test rig. If there was a way to control Z and turn the dot of it would be perfect.... Thanks for the great tip!

As someone who already knows how to work on CRT, would you recommend learning to work on them still in 2025? I work in the arcade business and I have 7 big buck cabinets all off route currently because they all have bad monitors. I've been looking into getting a rejuvenator mainly for diagnostic but at the same time I'm wondering if it is even worth the effort to try and fix them, or instead find a way to convert them to IR guns or something like that so they can work with a LCD display but I digress. The main reason I'm considering it is because I do know there is a community that loves CRT for older games so maybe it would still be worth learning? Would love to hear your opinion on the matter.

Incredible game with great history. I can see why you like it, especially with the Datsun artwork. The playability looks considerably worse than Atari's Night Driver. The steering looks overly sensitive and the physics lack the inertia that Atari was so good at incorporating.

🎉Kudos🎉 to you for this review and comparison video sir......even 5 years later!!! I've had a certain 1up cabinet that I've not been pleased with and have long contemplated what to do with it. Your video just confirmed exactly what I can and will do. I've even already ordered this yoke! Thank you. THANK YOU!!

I've never seen a standing version. Growing up, I played the video game machine that you had to sit in, as though you were actually in a ball turret. Tailgunner and Battlezone were the greatest games. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

This is a blast from the past for me. I remember there were one of these outside of Hill's store in the mall portion of the old Kingsport Mall (it's now been demolished), I actually think they had two of them back to back because there was no way to see the back of it. It too was this same shiny metallic flaked gold, and same smiley faces and frogs on it. I wondered what ever happened to it and why you rarely see any of these as there had to have been more of them. It looks like a teffyphone player or something I've seen techmoan do videos on at least for the players inside and same type of big tapes, that was a German company and they never really caught on here. Its just nice to even see a video of one of these again, it's something that stands out in my mind from childhood. Thank you, and I hope you and your family enjoy having this.

I have five of the 1000TX models. One stock for playing Pinball Construction Set. The others in various stages of upgraded. The top one with a CF, 128K, Western Digital VGA, both drives 5.25 & 3.5, the Tindie clock, math co. It is sitting on top of my Tandy 3100 486/33 that is totally upgraded. I had an Apple II+ first and got a 1000TX in 1987 at a Radio Shack Computer store.

Pretty neat - you did a good job at explining everything and keeping it interesting. Having a working Vectrex myself, that I don't want to mess up, I wonder if you can just aim an HD cam at the screen & run it through an LED projector, or even use mirrors or an old school '70s overhead projector to increase the screen size while retaining some of the magic of the old XY vector graphics...?

Iv been saving and storing19" monitors from the trash. I'm thinking about getting them all hooked up to universal chassis and sell as one unit for people who need a "plug" and play option. May do a "core charge" like they do with auto batteries and pay for the original chassis to restore those aswell.

The fact that it had 3D rotating cars (a feature that only much later appeared in Hard Drivin) is extremely impressive. The driving physics was poor, but Sega Turbo was worse (a pure reaction tester with not even centrifugal force in curves). Only the world first arcade driving simulator "Nürburgring N1" of 1975 by the German company Foerst had properly implemented physics, but needed an analogue computer made from 28 rack mounted PCBs. It may even be that its patent prevented other companies from using true 1st person view, hence Speed Freak perspective looks like sitting on the car roof. I research driving simulator history (see those playlists), and according to "THE HISTORY OF CINEMATRONICS AND A DESCRIPTION OF THEIR VECTOR GAMES" this was even created in 1977. Regarding the oversensitive steering, may it be that a defective counter IC makes it count at twice or 3x the intended speed, or that even something analogue in between (electrolytic capacitor "computing" the car position/inertia by analogue means?) has gone bad? Cinematronics did use analogue envelopes in their sound synth hardware, so it would not surprise me if (like Foerst Nürburgring) part of the car physics were supposed to be analogue too (e.g. pulses by steering wheel converted into charge direction) and so a dried capacitor makes the car move too fast. Also a frequency generator may clock the car speed and make it run to fast if something went wrong.

I remember a friend told me (jokingly), that if I wanted to get her a Christmas present, I could get her the VECTREX Ok. Out of curiosity, I checked it out on eBay. With a few games, it was $2,500. I said aloud: "Holy mackerel! Look how expensive that is!"

Are you sure it’s not sodium hydroxide instead of hydrochloric acid? I use cheap oven cleaner to remove dirt, grime and paint from aluminum cylinder heads. Same for hot tanks in a shop to dunk steel or iron parts. It eats aluminum! I am sure the toxic crowd is cracking jokes about gloves, eye protection and a respirator! Give a break with the tiny amount. You have air-borne yeast on your avocado toast that’s more harmful than this stuff.

@@ArcadeJason I have replied with details and pictures that aim to convey the problems I'm experiencing. Summary below for viewers who are interested in tracking progress. At present I cannot recommend the VectorWars PCB as a drop-in replacement for an existing StarWars PCB. Summary: - All games display with an incorrect resolution. - Yoke is off center just as it is on your video, but not on my original PCB - Few game ROM file names expectations do not match recent MAME ROM set file names (ex: v0.266).
