I did long days at computer lab (half work, half personal projects/research, for the latter it was nice to be able to be there alone at night so that I could use most of the computers as a processing farm), went home, enjoyed home life until I felt sleepy and slept for 10-12h

I feel like the only way this makes sense is if you aren't doing much - just sitting at home or whatever - or there's amplifying info people leave out (they leave out the part where they eat snacks or they use a car to get around everywhere. Again, not trying to set you up for a 'gotcha' or anything; just curious if someone legitimately eats a single 1500-2500 calorie meal per day and absolutely nothing else. This seems untenable to me in the long run.
