While Swami Sarvapriyananda's discourses are always enlightening, I feel he takes a leap in the Q & A sessions. The way he sometimes reframes a seemingly awkward question and then proceeds to give a mini-discourse that probably goes even beyond what the questioner intended is truly amazing. Pranaams and thanks to Swamiji and also to all the seekers who asked such insightful questions at the end.

Why do we perform shradh ceremony? Can we, in anyway, influence the progress of the departed soul by these rituals?

yes, Shradh is performed for this only. But it is not necessary if you believe in BHagavan pray to him for the departed. Shradh comes under Karma Kanda. It'll generate 'Adrishta'

You teach spirituality.. unfortunately the Hindu society first needs extreme violence to keep threats out for spiritual space .. something Tibetan monks failed to understand until China took them over .. this is something Acharya Chanakya had to do to save India first against aggression.. and Lord Krishna had to do in battle of Mahabharata .. Your teachings are Vedanta teachings.. the world was different.. everyone was Sanatani .. at least there was no Islamic threat .. you seem to believe Islam is spiritual and I have disagreement with that thought.. Hope you have seen what has been happening to Hindus since last 1000 years in Indian subcontinent.. we need to leave being spiritual and first walk through hell like Acharya Chanakya had to do .. or else there won’t be anyone to receive your learnings ..
