You are quite right, but don't forget Tirol (Northern Austrian Part as well as the Southern Part that belongs to Italy Südtirol=Alto Adige) and Switzerland although folklore there dounts a bit different. I love this music because it reminds me my childhood.

Pues sí, lindisimo. Me recuerda mi infancia y juventud.

Love the tune! Who made your Dulcimer? I love the tone! Is it standard tuned? The bass bridges seem to be in different positions.
@veedubbayou
@veedubbayou Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I made the dulcimer myself, and yes it is standard tuned. The bridges are all lined up, perhaps the angle of the video just make them appear different. It has 4 strings per course on the treble strings and 3 on the bass side. Howie Mitchel, (who built many dulcimers and wrote books on the subject) felt that having more string per course was very important in getting the best sound. So I followed his advise. Thanks again.
@AllAmericanFE
@AllAmericanFE Жыл бұрын
@@veedubbayou Thank you for your reply. I agree more strings per course seems to give a better tone. I currently have 5 Hammered Dulcimers and 1 Hammered Mbira. One of my favorites is a Colorado Dutch Hop style Dulcimer that I was given which has 4 strings per course over the entire instrument. Beautiful sound but is tremendously heavy. I also had to design different hammers for it since the string spacing is huge. I kept falling in the valley hitting bass notes on the left side of the treble bridge. I am hoping one day to own an Appenzell Hackbrett from Switzerland which has 5 strings per course.

Thank you for sharing this nice tune. So wonderfully played! My 10 Year old daughter plays Hackbrett and loves to listen to your Happy Hackbrett. I could not find any music sheet for it. Could you give me a hint where to look, or could you send us the tunes? Thank you :-)

The tune came from an OLD issue of the Dulcimer's Players News, really old. I don't recall the actual issue and actually I had a hard time finding it myself last time I looked for it. That was long ago, I play it from memory...

@tulsa844
@tulsa844 11 жыл бұрын
I still cannot find another HD that has such a full tone, probably because of the large size. If you were not a self made guy, what dulcimer would you buy if money wouldn't matter? Really cool song by the way. Now I have something I want to learn besides frailing Banjo.

Hi Thomas, I can't really recommend other dulcimers. I've played a few others but mostly only ones I've built myself. Most commercial instruments use only 2 strings per course which is a mistake according to Howie Mitchel who wrote books on dulcimer building long ago. He felt more strings per course gave a "richer" sound, of course it is a lot more trouble to tune. I went with Howie's recommendation though when I built my own instruments, they have 4 strings per treble course and 3 per bass course. So if you can find something with more than two, I think you get closer to the sound of mine. Hammer on!

This was one of my very early videos and I really didn't pay much attention to my position. I wanted to show the instrument which I built myself. I didn't intentionally "hide" my face. There are many other videos on my channel where I can be seen. :)
