In the misty lands of La Vega, a small town in the Dominican Republic, was hidden an ancestral secret that had endured for centuries: the mysterious origins of the Vegan Carnival.
Legend has it that in 1520, during a time of tension between Muslims and Christians, the inhabitants of La Vega found a unique way to celebrate their cultural diversity. Dressed in elaborate costumes, they took to the streets representing the different factions, uniting their people in a dance of vibrant colors and rhythms.
However, it was in 1947 that the Vegan Carnival became a tradition rooted in the heart of the people. On a dark and starry night, locals gathered in secret to bring to life a festivity that would endure through time. With hand-carved masks and dazzling costumes, they danced to the rhythm of drums and trumpets, invoking the very essence of the celebration.
