The butter chicken seitan is the best. I've made it so many times I lost count. Richa is super cool. I asked what from the book would pair well with this and she replied super fast! Great book and review!

I really love that you eat the butter chicken like we do here. No utensils, just hands. That's the authentic way and it makes it taste so much better (at least for me it does).

One of my favorite vegan cookbooks. I like that she marks respective recipes as gluten-free, soy-free , etc. to be more accommodating.

the chickpea omlet u made is called dibba rotte in local words and it's also made with rice flour or mix in some rice flour to make it crispy it is eaten with peanut chutney or ginger pickle so good,the butter chicken also includes tomato's and actual vegan butter in the original Indian recipe

Hi, Mary! I also love chickpeas. However, one thing is very important.: chickpea flour (besan) is made with raw chickpeas. My husband is an Ayurveda doctor. He told me it is important to cook the pancakes very well, until they are quite brown on both sides, because otherwise they might be difficult to digest.

The daal is pretty close to what my mom makes! I had that literally every day when I was a child. It's traditionally eaten with basmathi rice!

Hi Mary! I'm a lacto-vegetarian Indian, so I found this video interesting. We make most of this stuff, and they are all pretty authentic. (except for the chicken). I love your channel, even though I'm not vegan. Your channel still has some really awesome tips! Also, congrats on 50,000!

What a coincidence! I just stumbled upon her blog and tried two of her recipes in the last few days. I made her cauliflower kofta's and spicy crispy cauliflower bites. I like both but I will definitely be making the latter again.

I'm such a fan of your reviews! I love the buffalo chicken pizza and naan bread from richa's website. You should do a review on Street Vegan by Adam Sobel who owns the Cinnamon Snail, he has very interesting and amazing dishes coming from a new yorker who has been at the Snail many times.

OOh yeah! I made that 'butter 'chicken' for the first time on the weekend. Really tasty recipe. May be the best vegan curry I've had. As for the other recipes: so far a really high hit rate for a cookbook. I even went to an Indian market to pick up fenugreek leaves, but they didn't have any, just the seeds aplenty (I read that it's also called kasoori methi). Regardless, it was great even fenugreek deprived. Not even that difficult! Did I mention it was good?! :D

You can buy - kasoori methi ( dried leaves packed) at an indian grocery store. Fresh methe come as fresh leaves. Two different things, closely related but different. Fresh can be cooked with potatoes but dry stuff is used a little at a time.

Hello So happy to see you that you are cooking bengali recipes. Mary You pronounced it right Bengali Cholar Dal But you missed sugar in the recipe. We bengali don't cook Spicy in case of this Dal. It is best served with Indian Bread

I made the "butter chicken" recipe using your seitan recipe and loved it, although I will leave out the cayenne next time - I always follow the recipe the first time around. Yours is the first seitan recipe I've tried where I liked the texture. I am going to make your "beef" seitan recipe next. Thanks for all the work you put into your channel.

I love vegan richa- and this book looks fantastic, thanks for the review, I'll have to get my hands on a copy of it! I know it's a bit different, but I was wondering if you'd do a review on yours pans- they look so good and it doesn't seem like you have a problem with sticking even using little oil, but how to you keep the white looking so lovely and sparkly without any staining?! don't worry if you don't want to do a video on it, i'm just very into kitchenware, and I'm always looking out for a good find! Thanks again for the review, it was really helpful! oh, and I hope you're hand is doing good now! Heidi

Love this book! Making a double batch of aloo palak/potato spinach curry for lunch. It's realllllly good :) & some dhal & rice on the side... then I'll have it again with salad & those delish besan pancakes for dinner... yaas. I've been thinking I should try the butter seitan... but I never had butter chicken before I was vegan. People seem to love that stuff! I've always ordered lentil dishes at Indian restaurants - #hippie? - especially dhal makhani - buttery! but I've ordered it sans butter/ghee for a long time. Unsure of whether I'll like butter seitan... I'm not much of a buttery person but if it comes out a bit like a Thai/Malay coconut curry I could be a convert... ?

You should cook the dhal to a pulse and use more oil for the tempering...trust it will taste better you have to brown the cashews and burn the ginger

I purchased Richa's book over a year ago.I've tried almost all of her recipes👌 Fun Fact: That chickpea pancake is known as *Besan Chilla* in India🙌 If you like Indian food.Look up these popular Indian breakfast dishes *Poha (made from beaten rice),Upma (from semolina),Idli (steamed rice cakes made from fermented rice and white urad dal batter)* All are vegan👌and insanely delicious!

Oh I see! When it comes from spices and stuff there is a lot here as well but when it comes to be too original and rare might be difficult. I wanted to try this book sooo badly and I don't know what to dooooo ahahhaà

I just tried the pancakes and they were such a fail. I don't know what I did wrong. They kept sticking to my non stick pan no matter how much I greased the pan. I even put a little oil in the batter like the recipe called for. And the batter was so thick it wouldn't cook through so I tried thinning it out with more water :(. I guess l try it again tomorrow...

The batter isn't very thick so perhaps double check the ingredient amounts. Also, I found that if you try to turn them too early, they stick. Try cooking them a bit longer and you can drip a bit of oil around the edges and that seems to help the edges pull away from the sides without you touching them. Good luck, dear

I found what is apparently Richa's seitan Makhali (spelling?) after hearing you talk about on here just last week and it was amazing. I'm going to probably make it once a fortnight. I then made her mango tofu off her blog and didn't really enjoy it but I think I could make it much nicer with more mango and a few small tweaks. I have made a few of her dishes over the years and usually really love them. Do you think it's worth buying her cookbook? I tend not to buy the cookbooks from cooking cooking blogs because I figure most of the recipes are on the blogs?
