The common denominator seems to be whole food (no processed foods). I tend to spend more time watching keto/carnivore channels and I see lots of anecdotal testimony from people getting major relief from Parkinsons and also MS from a clean carnivore diet. Eating meat has been vilified for so long, that it's only fairly recent that we are getting data from people eating primarily animal products or even only animal products. Sometimes I get the feeling things have been kept from us by some that have certain agendas. But I hate it when I start thinking like a conspiracy theorist.

Hi I'm from India After many misdiagnosis I was confronted PD at the age of 32 Yes diet helps us to stay calm and more active I'm not on allopathy medicines My Ayurvedic Doctor (Vaidya) has given me a diet which helps me to stay fulfilled and calm. I dont feel bloated at all. My morning starts with ginger and turmeric shots (4 tbsp both) added with some medicines. Less of grains, good quantity of yellow lentil (moong dal) or whole green gram and soups like moringa and bottle gourd. I'm suggested to eat only fresh things and no salad. Ghee, Mustard oil and sesame oil is good to go. Most Important is massage with sesame oil and have steam. Within a few months I noticed reduction in tremors, stiffness and bradykinesia.

Thank you so much for sharing. You have taught me things I did not know which I will share with others and also put into practice. Our bodies are the only home that we will ever have and we need to take care of it. Sending you much love and positive energy xo

I have Celiac disease - I have had it all my life, but didn't know that the way I felt, thought or acted was because of the disease. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 50. After diagnosis, things fell into place. The diet change was awful as there wasn't a lot of gluten free food. I had to wing it and have adapted to this diet. I eat meat sparingly, very few processed foods and lots of fruits and vegetables. Yep, I lost a lot of weight and bloat. I think my PD has progressed slowly (I am now 73) because of my diet. I have just had the PD diagnosis a couple of months and it is earth shaking. I do believe that diet has an impact, but my diet is not necessarily your diet and vice versa. North Carolina, USA

You are spot on! I am not sure if Celiac disease is like PD but it seems that all symptoms, treatments and outcome are different for every person! Which is why I love this channel, so that we can all share, learn and improve! I agree too, the initial diagnosis is earth shaking but we really do need to tell out brains how well we are because the brain believes what we tell it even if it is not truth!

I'm kind of confused on the best diet for people with PD. I read that the Mediterranean diet is good, but I don't think it's a one size fits all. I try to eat foods that are anti-inflammatory.or that don't cause inflammation, but that may vary from person to person. For example, foods with sugar, bread, rice and pasta cause me to get severely dry skin on my face.

I think you are spot on! It is so very different for everybody which makes it tough. This is why I love this channel so all views are put on the table for us to try or not!

I saw something very interesting the other day as far as the explanation from a Parkinson’s specialist to do with the progression of the disease. And he said that it’s not like a steady decline ,so picture the pitch of the roof as being a steady decline versus how looking at stairs would look from the side to where the step is flat for a while then it drops down to another flat step and so on. So I’m not really sure if we experience a stage where it seems to be not getting worse and then we drop down that step to another level of progression of the disease. This caught my attention and I plan on exploring this in more detail because you never know who’s right and who’s wrong sometimes. I will be seeing my neurologist in a few days and I’m going to ask him this question and I will do my best to try to explain, what he tells me. Until then keep smiling and don’t sweat the small stuff! Have a wonderful day everyone.

I find my meds work best on an empty stomach, so generally once my first meds of the day have kicked in with a water and coffee in my good until lunch. The longer I leave without eating the better. I’m trying to avoid red meat at the minute so I’ll see how that goes. But I’d say keep off the heavily processed foods, sweet treats etc… and limit your alcohol consumption, which is on thing I do find hard. Love a dram 🥃in the evening 🙈

I am totally with you! I must admit I do love a glass of shiraz! I find it hard because part of me still gets annoyed that I have to give up simple pleasures because of this damn disease. At the end of the day though, not drinking alcohol, not eating processed foods etc is better for you illness or not!

Trying to figure it out the same as I go along and food has probably been the highest on my list of ways I can help myself fight the progression of Parkinson’s or just to feel better. Trial and error have always been a good strategy for finding the best path to take in my case. I try and test out and then see if I want to incorporate into my routine based on the information I find and the results it get from it. So far I made these changes to my routine: No alcohol (even a small amount causes me numbness in my fingers and toes). More nuts and Omega 3 (brain help and cognitive functions so why not). More protein (I start the day with a strong breakfast like eggs and avocado, tuna and spinach pizza or cod and lentils. It gives me energy and helps me be more active and less tired at the start of the day). Less sugar (I try to avoid having my blood sugar levels drop and not have to deal with another reason to go take a nap or have my energy levels disrupted).

I love this! You are exactly right, we need to keep trying different things as PD progresses (or in my case I refuse to believe this will continue!) People certainly underestimate the impact of diet, disease or not. I am going to implement a couple of your suggestions. Thank you so very much for sharing xo
