I just started to go vegan, but I notice that I'm getting a stomaches and gas after I eat. why is that if I'm eating healthy? and also how can I fix this? thank you!💚
@veganmichele6 жыл бұрын
A lot of us come to a vegan diet after years of eating a diet low in fiber high in hormones and pesticides and antibiotics. These things leave our gut environment pretty wrecked. And once we add in more fiber by eating more fruits and veggies legumes and grains we suddenly get a tummy ache and gas. But don’t worry it won’t last forever. Try adding a probiotic to your diet and eating foods that are considered prebiotic like bananas, potatoes, asparagus, onions, garlic, wheat bran to name a few. Eating these good for you type foods (a wide variety of fruit veg and grains and legumes) will eventually help your gut and keep things running smoothly. It’s just a transition but it won’t last long. You are doing great don’t give up💚

Great video, but I would never recommend it to a vegan beginner! You're diet seems very restrictive (no salt, no bread, 50 - 80% raw, a little bit of rice or organic pasta). This is the main reason why people don't sustain the vegan diet, because they feel deprived. I suggest to a vegan beginner to go out and buy EVERYTHING they want, everything that they used to eat but in a vegan form, meaning vegan ice cream, vegan fun meals, vegan chips and salsa, vegan cereal, nut butters, fake meat, vegan sweets and cookies etc...The "health" part of a plant based diet will eventually become a bigger part by itself, slowly but surely, but in my opinion, what is most important, is that people can actually sustain it in the first place, have fun with it and don't fall back because the felt too restricted by only having fruit and salad.
@veganmichele6 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment and I understand your point and where you are coming from. If that’s what has worked for you, awesome. For someone coming to veganism in need of cleaning up thier diet to get rid of disease, I don’t think that would be the best way to come into it. What’s awesome is there are so many options out there like you mentioned to mimic comfort foods found in the standard American diet, but if it’s made with animal products or just processed vegan ingredients it’s still not great for someone’s health In the long term. I think the best way to stick to a vegan diet is for the individual to find their “why” as to going vegan. Is it ethical, environmental, health wise etc. ? Once they do firgue out the why, then can make a game plan to stick to the how. And I am of the opinion of having lots of raw fruits and veggies and minimal processed foods. Science shows that our bodies thrive on theses. Does it need to happen over night? Absolutely not, and I’m a big believer in little steps that stick, so if that means a processed veggie burger on occasion, so be it. Thank you for watching 😊

Raw is awesome -- if your digestion can handle it. I went raw vegan several years ago for about 2 months. Things were great until about week 3-4. Then the upper right abdominal pain started -- first off and on. Then about week 8 I ended up so sick, at the urgent care, being told my gallbladder probably needed to come out. I stopped raw immediately and started eating cooked plain mashed potatoes, broths, and eventually after a week or two, tried some steamed veggies. I learned not everyone can go high-raw. I can't. I end up with GB pain. I still have to be careful to this day but I still have my gallbladder. :)

Organic produce isn't what you think it is, yes, it does use alternative methods of pest control but those methods don't control the pests well enough so they do have to use pesticides. however, these pesticides have a carbon backbone making them organic chemistry, unfortunately, the most common pesticides that are used in the organic farming industry have been proven to harm local aquatic wildlife. Plus, let's say that you want to grow 3000kg of organic produce, that will cost more land, water, and energy than growing 3000kg of non-organic produce. Not to mention that you're getting the exact same energy, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins in organic and non-organic, you're just paying 3x the price for organic. So if you're vegans who want to help the environment and local aquatic wildlife, don't buy organic, it'll help save you some money in the process.

Natalie Hanson Good points. Doesn't organic mean it's fertilized with animal poop? I'm not sure that is healthier than chemical fertilizers. Same with organic pesticides, how do we know they are safe? Has this been studied by scientists? Do I have to wash my organic lettuce?
@veganmichele7 жыл бұрын
+Kent Hanna I understand your points. Nothing these days can truly be 100% pure but I chose to go with organic over conventional every time if I have the choice. There is an undeniable difference in taste and freshness, and smells and lasts very differently than conventionally grown produce does. I understand that it's not always available to everyone out there, and it doesn't mean you can't eat plant based without it being organic, there are just too many studies out there and research showing that organic is better, but that's just my opinion. Thank you for the comment, it's always good to ask these kinds of questions and seek out the truth.

I'm new to this way of eating and wondering how one gets iodine in their diets without regular table salt?
@veganmichele4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim, since the amount of iodine needed depends on age and I’m not sure how much you need as an individual it would be good to get your levels tested before you begin supplementing. But you could either supplement or make sure you are getting sea veggies in like wakame, dulse, nori, laver, kelp, alaria. Other foods that contain iodine are cranberries, potatoes, corn, prunes, bananas, green beans, navy beans, and strawberries.

I've been a vegetarian for almost two months it's been a struggle to eat good veggies that I like. ( I stick with the ones I prefer) adding more weekly, cooking everyday is a trip but I'm learning thanks to KZbin and people that share tips like yourself. So thank you very much for sharing information with newbies like me. Questions: What vitamins and great tasty-protein powders for (smoothies) would you recommend. My goal is to be a vegan by September I have stopped eating all meat and whole milk (although cheese) was the last to go. Thank you. A new subscriber.

+seanviv2 that's great congrats to you!!! Cheese was tough for me too, but I know once you have some more tools under your cooking belt you'll be able to do it too! I have a special project coming i at the end of July that can help with some recipe ideas. I'll talk about it on my channel soon, so maybe it will be helpful to you. As far as vitamins go, I don't normally take any. I'm currently pregnant so I use garden of life raw multivitamin but usually I try to get as much vitamins and mineral from my foods. If you are low in b12 then I would try a sublingual. I also don't use any protein powders currently. In the past I used to use a vega one that I liked, but I now I find I don't really feel like I need it. Hope that info helps a bit 👍😊😊 thanks for watching!

Cheese was the toughest part for me too! The best alternatives I have found are the Chao brand slices that I find at Whole Foods and the Miyokos Cheese/Butter that can be found online and some at stores. Miyokos is a little more expensive but SO WORHT IT! They make a Mozzarella that melts beautifully on pizza. My 2 favorite protein powders are the Sunwarrior brand (chocolate) and the Garden of Life brand (vanilla).

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR THIS! I have gastroperesis and my tummy seems to respond better to being vegan then it ever has and i live on the east coast but im so ready to grab my fiancé and go to costcos! One question i had thyroid cancer and i have to go for full body scans every year about two to three weeks before my scans i have yo say away from iodine foods you mentioned the himlayian salt which is amazing i love it but in your opinon do you know what might be a good organic replacement? Thanks so much ps.cant wait to see you host on gravy i love you already!❤️
@veganmichele5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jenny! Thank you so much for such a lovely comment, it’s so Nice to meet you! I know that sea vegetables have lots of iodine in them such as Wakame dulse, Kombu, and nori. Potatoes, prunes and cranberries also have iodine. Just make sure you’re getting your foods from a very high-quality organic source. This is the best way to make sure you are getting a good amount of iodine In your diet. As far as a supplement, I’m not sure but it would be worth going into a health food store and speaking to someone who specializes in natural supplements for some suggestions. 💚

@veganmichele7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Lots of fruits and vegetable have protein in them, of course not as much as a steak for example. But I find if I eat a wide variety of leafy greens, other vegetables and fruits I am fine. I don’t supplement with any protein powders. If you’d like you can get protein from tofu, rice and beans together, veggie burgers. And nuts have protein too, but I try not to do too many nuts and seeds because they also have a high fat content. About a handful a day. hope this helps xx

@veganmichele7 жыл бұрын
+Sajani Mathews-Perez hi! Sure. Hi volume lower calorie foods are great. So whole fruits and veggies, large salads. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice cakes, rice, legumes, oatmeal, airpopped popcorn. As long as you are not adding additional fat on top of these things you can eat large amounts and be fine. Good luck!
@callystacarpenter44047 жыл бұрын
So does it have to be organic? Id like to try being vegan but organic food is very expensive.
@veganmichele7 жыл бұрын
+Callysta Carpenter hi! Of course I recommend organic first but if you cannot afford all organic do the best you can. Get things that are non gmo ( Google what crops are gmo) and look for the dirty dozen and try to get those organic and the rest just do your best. For a long time I didn't get organic to save money, and little by little I added more organic less conventional. Just do your best, eating a larger quantity of fresh produce regardless of whether it is organic or not is way better than sticking with a diet high in processed foods. Good luck to you!

Great video, but we do need iodine which is found in iodized salt. You can get it from seaweed, but iodized salt used once in a while is fine. You stated that table salt aka iodized salt doesn't have any minerals that we need. Sorry but that's not true. Still enjoyed the vid and the tips 👍🏾

You need much more then just Iodine.....which many vegans, espec. raw veg. fanatics are not getting
@ronabizness94347 жыл бұрын
You didn't hear what she said, she said to stay away from regular table salt, which has no minerals, and pointed out the pink himalayan that has a wide spectrum of minerals. So you mean to tell me you get your minerals from morton table salt or other big box brand?
@bangturden70707 жыл бұрын
the actual "bad stuff" in regular table salt is just the anticaking agents. every salt without those agents is fine. no need to spend on fancy salt :)

@veganmichele7 жыл бұрын
+jaiden ward hi! Absolutely😊 maybe start with a "everything vegan, but still eating fish 1-3 times per week" until you can phase out the fish. For me something that really helped was watching documentaries that showed the reality of mistreatment of the animals and how brutal the industry is. Also some on the health aspects of going vegan. Some that I recommend are "planet ocean, cowspiracy, what the health, forks over knives. If you have Netflix they really have a lot of them to watch. Be patient with yourself, do your best and eat vegan things that sound good to you. Find recipes on line you like. If you really want fish then have it every once in a while until you are ok without it. It's a lifestyle change, but not a competition 😊 so be gentle with yourself. There are some things like vegan sushi rolls, or "no tuna" recipes that will kind of mimic the fish taste as you transition away from fish. Also, if you'd like I have just released my vegan ebook with tons of recipes and advice to help a newbie out. If you are interested you can check it out at www.bvgan.com/ebook to learn more. Good luck, and I know you will do great! xx

Hi! Thank you so much! Recently I have been heading towards the majority of my food being raw. But I am still eating cooked a few times a week. I will be putting out a video on Thursday explaining what I'm eating currently and my experience going fully raw. Overall, I definitely want to encourage anyone who watches to just add more fruits and veggies to their diet and get closer to a plant based diet. But as of now I'm seeing too many positive changes in my own self to go back to a fully cooked vegan diet. Hope this answers your question. xx

@veganmichele8 жыл бұрын
+Tech Reviews hi! thank you for subscribing and watching😊 I understand it can be hard in a big family especially letting your parents know. Maybe just start eating more fruits and veggies instead of the meats, and if they question you just let them know you'd like to make healthier choices. Explain it to them in a loving way and maybe they will want to try it out with you too! Good luck!
@aliciamirbaum71938 жыл бұрын
Tech Reviews Just like tell them and explain to them why and show them how you plan to get everything what you need (nutritionlike). And maybe tell them (if you would do it) that you'd cook for yourself and so on, so they don't have to do extra atuff just for you. you can precook the meals on weekends too to save time. At least my research concluded that and thats how I convinced my parents (but will go vegan in june because have to wait until my exchange year ends)

What does it mean nom GMO?
@ednaamado97458 жыл бұрын
Non*
@veganmichele8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Non GMO means non genetically modified organism. A GMO, or genetically modified organism, is a plant, animal, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified using recombinant DNA methods (also called gene splicing), gene modification or transgenic technology. So a lot of foods now are being genetically modified and it is not good to be eating these. Whenever you have a choice between conventionally grown (often GMO ) and Organic non GMO I suggest you pick the Organic non GMO choice. xx
