I did a little research on Las Vegas Park...it opened in 1953 and closed in 1959. Aside from horses, NASCAR used it as a dirt track in the early 1960's. In an aerial photos website I found, you can see it in photos dated 1954, 1960, 1963 and 1966. By 1967, you can see the construction of the Las Vegas Country Club, and the development along East Sahara Ave, and growing housing developments in the area. You can also see the original LVCC in its original form and later expansion.

Looks to me like the reason the racetrack failed is the Las Vegas heat. Even today when the tempatures get much above 95 degrees horse race tracks will cancel racing that day. That grandstand was open air type instead of enclosed glass air conditioned. So would you rather watch a live horse race in the heat or gambol in air conditioned comfort at a casino that also provided comps for your gamboling dollars. Obviously the casinos won out and now with big screen TV simulcasting of horse racing and other sports there is no need for live horse racing in the Las Vegas arena.

It was called the Aladdin Theatre of the Performing Arts. I remember during one Comdex convention, attending a private concert by Kenny Loggins held by the Franklin Computer company. This was right after the Top Gun movie was released and the house nearly came down when he performed Danger Zone. In case you don't know, Franklin Computer was a company that tried to come out with a close of the Apple II computer. It amazes me that it is the only part of the old Aladdin hotel that still survives.

I guess the fanfare around the fancy taco proves that you are getting fresh prime rib beef and not poorer quality meat that has been sitting around. Instead of screens the Venetian should ensure that their elevators on the walkway work. In July I wanted to check out Treasure Island while staying at the Venetian and sadly the elevator was broken. So frustrating to travel in a wheelchair. I dread those over the road walkways. This trip with all the construction and obstacles I really felt trapped more than on any other trip. Those cobblestones are pretty hard to navigate in a wheelchair too.

I love the drone videos. The North strip shopping seems like a field of dreams. Build it, and they will cometheory. Maybe it's enough to bring traffic there, but I still see FB failing and rebranding within five years. The place is so stale, and Im not sure I would want to stare at the people on the swing ride if I had one of those rooms. They should have put a basketball arena or a waterpark there. Mark, never change; if it sucks, say it. 😅
@DennisSmithAIStockImageClubАй бұрын
Wouldn't those towers block some of the view of the Strip for some of the rooms at Fountainebleau?
@MilestomemoriesАй бұрын
Definitely would. My theory is that the hotel tower being proposed is going to be that Fontainebleau tower. That’s the only way this all makes sense.
@unclewob99hard24Ай бұрын
16:50. I think the FB parcel is where the two towers are on the rendering, ie the Northeast corner. If they are aligned with the FB parking lot, then the views from the main tower would not be obstructed. The Highest Rollers would have their own hotel tower completely separate from us hooligans. Pretty posh! But especially posh if they use that powder-blue-hip-retro vibe from the pool deck. Lots of swanky music and low leather seating. Divine! I live for this stuff! ❤ And yes, the swing needs to be gone if it’s near the High Roller Ritz. I can’t tell, but now the gizmo at the top of the swing tower looks like a bowl of ramen? If so, it might change my opinion about blocking the view for the Grand Poobah Palace.

It didn't even look like "towers" in the renderings. It looked like BLVD-style commercial development coupled with the dome and thrill tower. I'm curious to see some follow-up renderings specific to the proposed towers. But I definitely agree that something like that would be very beneficial for that part of the Strip. I for one find Circus Circus creepy and just never gives off welcoming vibes every time I walk by there so I never go in there due to how creepy and dingy it always looks, but that said I do want to see more novel attractions in that area. 🙂

Bally's has around 15 regional casinos. They currently are going to build a big one in Chicago. I had looked at investing in Bally's shares but they had too much debt. They are going private as their chairman has his private equity firm buying out the shares. They have potential but at this point Wynn, MGM and Caesars shares are in the dumpsters right now as we are likely to have an economic slowdown in the fall. It is probably a smart move by Bally's to cover off the Vegas market for the next few years. It is a smart move by Palms to get access to Bally's player database. I think private equity will try and raise money from Wall Street for all of Bally's projects. I think they will have a hard time raising money because the opportunity cost of sinking money into Bally's is that returns are a long way off from their numerous projects.
