In the end he decides not to kill everyone on earth because of his fear of Piccolo and others teaming up on him... so he lives with Bulma. Eventually gets a child with her. Gets a sentimental side that he really was in denial about: trunks dies --> vegeta's rage suicide attack. Vegeta gets to learn about humility and apologized to Gohan. Later on he becomes a semi-deadbeat-saiyan-style dad to trunks and loves his family, the stay on earth, Goku's death, Gohan being overpowered... it had all reasonably changed him and it made him a better man in general. Even in GT we get shown that Vegeta continues to be with his family and still loves them even though he trains like it's his day-time job. In DragonBall Super, Vegeta is a deadbeat dad that will just kill people once they kill his family. He does not even try to raise trunks most of the time since he is on Beerus' planet training non-stop at the point Bulma even had to try to find the earth-to-Whis communicator which shows that Vegeta does not talk to them like at all

Goku's "goodbye my friend" line gets me every time when I watch Fusion Reborn. And don't even get me started on Goku's little ramble on how him and Vegeta hadn't seen each other in so long and that they shouldn't argue, as well as him trying to make Vegeta feel better about the power difference a little before that. It's honeslty one of the reasons why Fusion Reborn is one of my favorite Dragon Ball movies, as well as just one of my favorite movies. There is so much depth to Goku and Vegeta's friendship that I feel like just doesn't really get focused on at all. Fusion Reborn is one of the few examples that I feel like we have where we did get to see their frienship and how much Goku truly cared for Vegeta as a friend. Rather than "regressing", I'd describe it as his simply redefining his rivalry with Goku. Before, he fought Goku in order to prove that he was the absolute strongest Saiyan forever and always. But now, it's more like he understands and accepts that fighting with and alongside Goku is a way for them BOTH to become stronger; each will briefly overtake the other as they race each other up the ladder, and he might even find more enjoyment out of it that way. He even voiced this concept to Granola, when the latter seemed to hold far too much stock in his status as "strongest in the universe". Vegeta pointed out the fact that this title's owner is never set in stone.

Vegeta is such a great character, best in dragon ball imo. He fights for his pride and to be the greatest, but just has great development throughout the show. He learns to live for something other than himself and die for it, learns to respect the other Z fighters and learned to demolish his enemy (when the time came). I see goku and vegeta both as protagonists with a decent more bias on goku always saving the day but vegeta also always gets development that I feel earns more respect of the viewer.

Fr, not only was bulma killed right in front of him and also presumably Mai as it looked to be at one point, but it probably made him feel utterly helpless not to mention all the while how Goku Black peaches how everyone he loves and him deserves to be killed for who they are. I mean Trunks literally has such bad PTSD when he first came back that he even tried attacking normal Goku. That arc is dark asf. Pretty sure they would've messed him up psychologically really bad if not for Goku and Vegeta giving him hope, reminding him of who he was, and helping him through his self-doubt.

6:40 I think the English Dub of this scene hits a lot harder. Vegeta distinctly says "I'm proud of you, son." Right to Trunks' face. I feel like that is a huge moment for Vegeta. He did not stutter, struggle, nor come up with any insult to balance his compliment. Pride has always been Vegeta's shtick, so it makes sense that it was easy for him to tell his son that it was proud of him.
